So I found this thing at a local shop and he let me have it for $500 as it had a rod through the block.
It is a Grumman Kubvan. I don't know a whole lot about them, but from what I've gathered, the Post Office put out a bid for a mail truck (just like you see running around now) back in the early 80's. Grumman put this together with VW's 50 hp non-turbo diesel and an auto transmission, although supposedly some came with a manual. The Post Office supposedly liked it, but couldn't buy them due to the buy American policy. So Grumman sold like 400 of them to private mail carriers and delivery people, and the Post Office had the new style mail trucks made that are still running around now.

Donor TDI:

Yanked the TDI out:

And the entire Jetta harness:

When I dropped the Jetta shell off to the scrap metal place, I found these 13" wheels. 2 Speedlines and 2 Krometals. They have a 4x98 pattern, so I'll need to run wobble bolts.

Pulled the old engine out:

Got the new engine in and motor mounts made:

(This mount bent and I need to remake it, as of now I have a solid delrin mount here).

All new wearable parts. All the bearings, axles, bushings and etc.

Machined the rear spring perch to accept the new square cut springs.

Much stiffer, but also, much shorter rear springs:

Front suspension with Afco coilover sleeves and Eibach springs.

Got the intercooler and most of the accesories mounted:

Got the wheels powdercoated blue, but the company I ordered the wobble bolts from F'd up and send me 9 10mm bolts and 11 12mm bolts. Also got some 175/60-13's

I need it lower, so I'm talking to the local air ride shop already about putting together a kit for it.

It's only been on the road since last Friday, so I need to get a minute and get some real pictures taken, so thats it for now.
