I needed a new daily since VW is buying my TDI back in a couple of weeks. I looked at e28s, Miatas, e30s, e46s, WRXs, mid 80s Benzes, etc. Pretty much any sort of halfway interesting vehicle that I could think of. Nothing really grabbed my attention, and I didn't want a project since that would take funds away from finishing ODB.

Welp, the no project rule went straight out the damn window thanks to Igor at CA Tuned.

He and I were talking about different cars he had for sale when he made the mistake of telling me he had a 1973 C10. 307 V8, 3 speed manual on the floor. New clutch and new exhaust too. At a price I really couldn't say no to.

First up was taking care of the brakes. Because even though the truck has discs up front, it had un-boosted manual brakes. Trying to slow it down on the mountain pass between Sacramento and LA was terrifying. Thankfully, Classic Performance Products is here in SoCal, so after a quick call and a couple of bucks, the truck got a new master cylinder and vacuum booster.

The interior really needed some help, because the stock bench was completely shot.

Found a guy in the high desert that was selling a stock bench for cheap. Not in the greatest shape, but it'll do for now. No longer sitting on duct tape is nice.

Finally, the carb on this thing sucked. Took forever to get started and would not hold an idle worth a damn.

Hard to see, but the fast idle cam wasn't connected, so the choke wasn't working how it should. It was also dirty as hell inside once I took it apart. Found another, cleaner carb for cheap, got a rebuild kit, and presto.

That's more or less where I'm at with it now. Fun thing to bomb around in. Next up is getting a radio into it. Then new shocks, a rear axle flip kit and hangers, and front spindles and springs. Hope to have it lowered 5.5" front and 7" rear soon over some wide 15" steelies. Eventually I'll switch the transmission over to either a T5 or a 700R4, and do some sort of upgrades to the engine.

And yes, I'm still building ODB and my Triumph Bonneville because I'm dumb and can't leave anything alone.

Found a rear axle flip kit for the truck. Basically just a set of plates to swap the rear axle from under the rear leaf springs to sitting on top of them. 5" rear drop for 40 bucks? Yeah, I'll take it. Gonna do rear shackles to get the rear down to a final drop of 7", and hopefully get some spindles, springs, and shocks to get the front down 5" in the next couple of weeks.

I also threw some modern 3 point shoulder belts in, a fan clutch and new fan to replace the old school flex fan, and new V-belts.

It's a truck- I'm automatically in on this. I'm hoping some bags are in it's future. Also, I'm a huge fan of the paneling-'there are a metric ton of C-10s out there, the faux wood sets this one apart.

No bags for the foreseeable future. I still have to finish ODB first. The wood paneling would be rad if it wasn't faded all to hell. Gonna pull it off at some point.

Thanks man. The more I drive it, the more I like it. Definitely need a radio in it soon though. Debating between running a cheap bluetooth head unit under the seat or going for a Retro Sound head unit in the dash.

Had a buddy help me set the timing and adjust the idle mixture on the carb. Realized the truck had a grand total of 0 degrees of timing, so we set it to 15 and it definitely runs a hell of a lot smoother.

Hopefully I'll have a lowering kit and new wheels/tires by the end of April.
