• Single Cam EK

So I started off with a stock EK (5 speed, HX, so economy version, with the D16y5 eco-vtec motor)

The car had 116k miles, all original, just was keyed pretty bad from previous owner but I didn't really care because i knew i wanted a fast car and not a pretty car. The car always ran kind of funny, and i never was sure why. It ran and i was happy with that while I started saving for a B series swap. I got inpatient and just wanted to make it a little cooler, so i bought a turbo kit off CX racing, ebay junk.

So after I installed the kit and got over some electrical issues, I took it out for a test drive on the base map i got from HAMotorsports. The car was running fine besides a slight hesitation when I would initially start to go from a stop. I really only wanted to make ~200HP and I was content. I brought the car home from getting lunch/test driving the same day it was finished. I went to start the car and it would crank but not start. I really had no idea why. It was getting spark and fuel, then I noticed the cam shaft wasn't turning. I assumed I broke the cam since that was my luck. The car ran for about 4 hours. So i decided not to do a B swap and go Vitara pistons/Eagle rods/Stock sleeves. The cam gear actually was just stripped by the way. Previous owner left it a little loose. Oh well too late.

And I also got a fresh D16y8 head and block. My buddy sold me his Holset 50 bucks and after a 50 dollar amazon rebuild it was mint.

So this was the second build
Head:
D16y8
Brian Crower Stage 2 cam
Brian Crower springs and retainers
Stock valves
Stock port
AEM cam gear

Block:
D16y8 stock sleeve block
D16z6 Crank (better oiling properties)
D16y8 shimmed oil pump
ARP head studs
Eagle rods
Vitara stock bore pistons
ACL race main and journal bearings

Everything else:
CX Racing intercooler
JHP USA Traction bar
Progress Racing Coilovers
Holset HX35
Stock intake/TB
1000cc Bosch Injectors
GO-Autoworks Catch Can
Turbo XS RFL BOV
Hondata s300
VMS Racing fuel rail
Competition Stage 4 6 puck clutch/Ebay flywheel

So then we took it to the track after it was tuned to 20PSI making 312HP/244WTQ. It ran 11.93 @ 116MPH right off the trailer, full weight. That race was against a nitrous K swapped EK hatch who wanted to race a single cam because they are slow.

And finally, the rebuild. A CNC head is being built, with oversize valves, and full Rocket Motorsports valve train and stage 5 cam. It is going in for a 10 point cage with a window net very soon. It will still be a 1.6 liter single cam, but will be sleeved and hopefully make 700 on a BorgWarner s362. The parts I have so far are...

Really wasnt sure what to expect with this one, very surprised by the outcome. Was a little worried when I first saw the cx/ebay turbo kit lol.

Trust me I am kicking myself in the ass for not just doing a balls out build from the start, but it is what it is, I learned my lesson.

Sick shit man. I was thinking about boosting my 99 cope but I sold it and bought a s13. But I still have my 93 integra I'm building for boost. It also has a holset but an h1c with a 9cm hotside

What motor is in the integra? My single cam made 7.9:1 compression and spooled the 12cm housing at around 5k full boost. 4.5k it would be at about 10psi.

So I figured I would include my next build plans that are already in progress..

Head (built by Bad Guys and Rocket Motorsports):
D16z6 head
CNC/port and polish
Supertech oversized valves
Rocket Motorsports Stage 5 cam
Rocket Motorsports springs and retainers
AEM Cam gear
Stock Ignition (hopefully)

Block (built by Rocket Motorsports):
D16z6 block bored to 75.5mm and sleeved
Arias 75.5mm pistons 10:1 compression
Manley H beam rods
Clevite main and rod bearings
z6 Crank
z6 ported, polished, upgraded gear oil pump
1/2 inch head studs
10mm (I think?) main studs

Turbo:

BorgWarner s362 T3 divided housing 3inch vband outlet
T3 top mount turbo manifold, divided with twin 38mm wastegates
Twin 38mm tial gates
Dual backdoor Intercooler built by Go-Autoworks 3inch inlet/outlet with a tial bov flange on the hot side
Tial BOV
3 inch intercooler piping
3 inch throttle body
Golden eagle intake manifold
Hondata boost-by-gear

Electronics/Fueling:

1600 ID injectors
Golden eagle fuel rail
Full -6 feed from tank to rail
AEM fuel pressure regulator
Hondata s300
Hondata flex fuel sensor
Walboro 450lph fuel pump

Exterior/Interior:

10 point roll cage w/ window net
NRG parachute mount
Source 3 piece open front end
VMS racing wheels/skinnies

Suspension/brakes:

K tuned front upper control arms
EX front spindles
Hardrace lower control arms
KS rear trailing arm kit
Wilwood front drag brakes

Tranny will probably be a stock GSR possibly with a handcuff

Catch can is a GO-Autoworks 6 port can, 4 from the valve cover/1 from the block/1 plugged

This car will be street driven too

obviously left out some of the BS

B18a1. Stock cr. Forged rods and pistons
Std bore
Stock head+arp head studs

Nothing crazy just shooting for like a 300-325whp street sweeper now that I have a 240sx. I just want the power to be usable on the street. so a quick spooling turbo that hopefully won't choke out.
I had the original 18cm housing still but opted for the 9cm. if it doesn't make what I want it to make then I'll probably go 12 cm.

You should make that power with no issues. 300 HP is fun, and i spun the beginning of 3rd on 225 radials lol.

Alright so I have some updates, first my buddy gave me a new, already gutted, already slightly cut shell, so that is the new race car. The red car is going to be a daily, currently just a single cam but maybe eventually a b swap. So once i get good photos of the new black ek i will post them up. Equally as clean, just been cut.

Also my fabricator sent me some photos of my intercooler!

Jesus that escalated fast. I thought this was going to be a first car build thread when you were talking about the CX turbo kit and how the car being keyed but it didn't matter because it was a fast stock single cam, you surely proved me wrong and this makes me want to boost my car soooo bad.
