  • W108 Build Thread - South Africa

So after many years of searching for the ultimate Merc to build/restore, yesterday we stumbled upon one from a 78 year old man looking to get rid of his 280se W108.
The car has been standing for quite some time now. 90% of the parts are there ready for refurbishing, the rest are tiny odd pieces which require sourcing. I will be bagging the 280se since the height just annoys me. Did a quick trial run on the buffing of the fender and trunk, came out pretty decent.

So on the to do list so far:

Replace all hoses incl fuel lines.
Drop the fuel tank for full clean up.
Flat & Polish entire car (still deciding on new colour)
Redo Carpets & Seats (Will be done in BMW Coral Red)
Sand down all wooden pieces and stain it again with a clear coat.
Polish up all the chrome parts
Full Service to the motor & gearbox
Overhaul the suspension incl all rubbers/bushes etc
Install the air ride system with new shortened shocks.
    Wheels & Tyres (either 16's or 17's)

Will update as we go along with this build.

Been a while since I posted, been busy with clients cars. Never really did much until this past week. Detailed the car with some Autoglym products. Got some wheels and test fitted, removed rear suspension, ordered new shocks, awaiting air ride kit.

All the suspension parts will be sandblasted and repainted. The car underneath is in a filthy condition, messed with mud, grease and oil. So alot of elbow grease, engine cleaner and high pressure water is needed !

Leather for the interior will be redone in Coral Red from the BMW E92.

          Just did some test fits...
