    Hey dudes,

Lurker for many years and finally thought I'd actually make a build thread. I'll intro myself and previous cars before starting the build. Names George, 23, live in Melbourne and I work parts for VW. I love all cars, but have a strong passion for Volkswagen. I'm Bulgarian but grew up in Johannesburg, so thats where the huge passion for VW actually started and my family has owned many VW's in the past and so forth. I don;t know what it is about them, you can just about go to any part of the world and make friends simply due to the fact that some other dude owns a golf, jetta or a beetle - its unreal. I've encountered some of the coolest dudes and most of them are as genuine as you'll get.

Anyway I've been into cars all my life, as far back as I can remember - NFS underground and FNF really kicked me into gear. Strictly for scene points and to bore you to death lol, here's some cars I've owned over the years

When I first got my license many moons ago - 1976 mk1

After that I sold the golf and got a '92 EG civic, B swapped, coilovers etc. This was a super fun little car, went through all sorts of stages with it. Raced it, showed it, daily'd it all sorts

After I sold that, I really wanted a CRX..... so I found one from QLD and drove it non stop to Vic, which was a 21 hour drive haha, fun times. Full build, b18c, bbk, all suspesion, aero etc, but sold it before I ever got to race it. Unfortunately my garage got demolished and I pretty much built the car on the street like a peasent haha

At the same time I was building and enjoying the CRX, I bought another MK1, it is a 1981 U.S import. I spent lots of time on this one, full paint, 1.8t, air ride, BBS, interior, it was and still is super fun. This is now for sale to make room for my newest project - I'm genuinely sad to see it go. I bought this as a shell and did a ground up build

Dont mind my dodgy indicator setup hahaah, bumper was getting painted

If you've made it this far, congratulations, I hope I haven't bored anyone to death. Now for the build. I'll be using the same thread for both of my current builds. 2010 MK6 GTi, and 1983 MK1 GTi Campaign edition. I've always loved the GTi, it is the perfect car to do every single task I could ever ask. Perfect daily, comfortable, style, steez, performance, just about everything. People always ask me why I chose the GTi over the R, and I just cant explain it. I take my MK6 everywhere, we do massive roadtrips, snow board trips, bmx trips, it does everything and in STYLE!

MK6 I bought a year ago stock standard, went through a few stages and I've bagged it a month ago. Usual intake, exhuast, BOV, Airlift, sound system install. I love it to bits. Over the next few months My plans are to dial in the front camber to where I want it via Hardlines By Swoops camber tops, and Megan roll centre adjuster, and rebuild my 17" bbs for perfekkkkttt fitmuuuunt.

The rest of the build thread will be for the MK1 GTi Campaign. The campaign is a pretty special golf. It marked the last of the MK1 series, and it was really the best of the best MK1's at the time. The suspension, brakes, 1.8 injection, quad lights, P slow wheels, sunroof, it was all lovely. Only 2000 were ever made, and I'm unsure how many remain today.
Some want Ferrari's, some Lamborghini's - I've always just wanted a MK1 GTi! So after not being able to afford one for many years (they hold good value in Aus) I finally found the right one for me.

It has been in an accident front and rear. I found this a perfect platform, due to the fact it has already been 'wrecked' and pretty much ready for scrap. This way, the purist's wont eat my heart out if I modify anything haha. My plan is to keep it as OEM as possible, engine, wheel and suspension mods down the track.

The front has been somewhat repaired by the previous owner, so I will leave it at this stage, although I believe they welded the front apron in skewed and will need re-aligning to get it perfect. Enough chat, here's some pics.

I am planning on breaking this build/project up into smaller tasks, as over the years I've learned it's how I work best. So first step will be to get the engine running, the GTi is missing quite a few bits and will require, drive shafts, full exhuast, fuel pump, sway bars, rocker cover, and a few other goodies.

After I get the engine started my main mission before XMAS time is to get the rear end repaired. I have spoken to a restorer in Dandenong by the name of PJ's Restorations, and they have great reviews and seam pretty switched on. I will be looking for the best possible workshop to carry these repairs out, as I wish them to be as perfect as possible, no short cuts taken. Along with the GTi, I have been supplied a floor and chassis cut out section of the same year model, which will aid in the chassis repair.

Once the rear is sorted, I will prepare it for rwc, and club permit. I do not intend to paint any panels, or paint match. I want to enjoy the car for a few months-year and make the most of it while i find all the missing bits and collect all the required bits to complete her.

In terms of engine, there are a few options. Leave the standard motor, which I'm considering for the first time in my entire life of owning cars lol. If not, options are, 20vt stage 2 k04 - turbo the 1.8 kjet lump in it currently - 20v head onto current block with ITB's - or my all time favourite motor swap of all time, K20A, but i think too many people will be butt hurt by this one so it wont be likely to happen, plus getting that registered .... wow haha.

After engine is complete (talking a few years now) I intend on stripping the entire car down, and doing a complete ground up restoration with every nut and bolt, etc. Time will tell, but if I break up my stages, I will enjoy every bit of the car, and the steps rather than doing it all in one go. I'm genuinely keen for this project, and happy to share it with you fellow Stanceworkers

    George

Been busy with work (got to work hard to bring this thing back to life haha) but it was a sunny day today and cleaned out the GTi, washed and vacuumed the interior. Something about have a cleaning interior makes it more pleasurable for me to work on it. After spending a bit more time on it, there are so many parts missing that it will take me longer than expected to start her up. New kjet pump came in, and also got a exhaust from RJA to put something on to try and start her up. Wiring has been pulled apart, fuse box out, no wiring at all for the fan switch and fan, most plugs in the bay unplugged and dangling - fun times head haha.

I'm no kjet expert and never was, so would anyone be able to help me identify what sort of a nut would go on the the fuel pump to seal the banjo?

Here she is cleaned of the mess it was in. Interior isnt bad at all, quite and well looked after actually. Rear seats are non genuine, and they dont fit well at all. Will have to look into that, otherwise, its awesome inside!

The old man is finishing the unit in the back and renovations on the front house begins soon... Which is very frustrating as it makes is harder to work on the toys haha

Have also started looking through some of the parts the car came with from the previous owner, and started getting some parts my self slowly. Some pretty neat stuff collected in those boxes, with some cool OEM old stock.

Played around with the mk6 on the weekend, got it a touch lower.

Also the Megan roll centre adjusters came in, hoping to get -2deg front camber with them. Will try installing them over the next few day (I think I have to knock out the studs on the OEM ball joint which will be a pain in the ass)

Once that's done, I'll measure up the final specs and order new lips for the BBS. Fun times ahead

Mmmm, MK1 Golf. What VW dealer do you do parts for?

re: the nut for the banjo, know any old school Merc techs? They'd probably know (pump looks exactly like a universal K-jet pump we have at work, maybe even is). If not, surely aeroflow or proflow or one of the fuel fitting mobs would sell something suitable.

Hey bud, work for Essendon Fields VW. Its good fun where in Melbourne you from?

I actually ended up finding the part number for the dome nut, and there was one left in the country, so ordered it through work asap haha.

Got new exhaust gaskets and stud nuts as well. After installing everything, the GTi fired up as if I'd been driving it for ages. Now awaiting drive shafts before the first road test! Stoked.

I've had these mint condition VDO gauges stashed away for years, finally have a perfect application for them now!

Installed the Megan front centre roll adjusters, ended up with approx. -2.5 deg camber which is what I wanted. Split my BBS and started playing around with fitment.

Managed to get the front exactly where I wanted it, final size will be 17x8.5

Rears final size will be 17x10. I still have to cut the bump stops a bit more to get it sitting perfect, but my ghetto measuring always delivers good results when I have to dummy up lip sizes haha

Thanks man. Wheels are almost done, just too lazy to assemble haha.

The time finally came to drop of the GTi at the panel shop. So excited yet very afraid to see how things unfold in the next few weeks.

Massive thanks to my buddy Josh and his sexy ford for the tow.
Things are slowly moving forward, slowly collecting parts for the 20vt swap too, and for the wire tuck in the bay.

So Bought the K04-022 from the TT/S3. Seller claimed to have rebuilt it, with new bearings, billet trim etc.

Came with coolant and oil lines, hopefully all goes ok.

Also came with injectors - word on the street is they do not fit directly and that I will need some adaptor spacers from the U.S to use the S3 injectors on the AGU. Also comes with a 3bar fpr, however unsure if I need maybe a 4bar, pending what tune it will go for, and how much psi its running.

Two more things I will need to source, one being a manifold for it, and the other is a exhaust dump pipe flange so I can make a custom exhaust/ dump.

                    Exciting

Also finally ended up pulling the 20vt out of the cabby. It’s time the cabby goes to the scrap yard  sad days indeed, but I can’t afford the space or funds to keep 5 cars going, so ones gotta go.
Will be placing a nice big ECS order in the next few weeks. Looking at cleaning everything up, wire tuck the bay, update to 2.0 TFSI coil packs and install K04.

But before all of that, need to get the GTi registered once It’s back from the shop. So nervous!!!
