Well, here's to the start of a long journey.
I plan to use this as a sort of "journal/blog." So don't expect things to happen fast. If you're interested in this build, maybe come back in a year or two. Many great things will have happened, hopefully.
And to begin...
Currently, I own(s) ("I" read "Ally Auto") a 2012 Honda Civic Si sedan that has a Dyno Blue Pearl outfit. I, with a cosigner, signed a loan for it a few days before my 20th birthday, in January of 2015. My insurance is outrageous for a "sport" potato and I do not like that I have a loan for it. I also have a growing love for older model cars.
There (s)he is (as long as I posted the URL properly) in all it's glory: Gunther. I don't remember where the name came from, but that's unrelated.
BC Racing coilovers: ~1,400$ (I purchased the optional Swift brand springs; that makes the price reasonable, right?
)
Possibly my Yakima roof rack: ~700$ with all the components
Skunk2 cat-back: ~550$
Hondata Flash Pro: ~700$
DC Sports short ram intake (read junk): ~130$
Spec-D headlights: ~300$
Morimoto LED fog lights: ~150$
(Not trying to sell here ... Just giving an idea of the money I've put into this over the past year or so)
That's probably it for things I could actually get any money back on. I'd be happy making back 1,500$ or so, honestly ... we'll see, though.
From now, until spring, I'll be searching for an MGB GT, I haven't decided on a year, or if that even matters to me, in that time I'll occasionally post any sketches or thoughts that I have for the build as well as possible finds. Along with the search, I'll be paying my car off and selling it for a cheap, functional car that I will use as a daily while I build this.
To begin, I just want to restore it. I hope to fix any rusted areas and address any menial tasks up front. Once that is done, the "neo-" aspect of my plan comes into play. I want to modernize the suspension, the rear brakes (I believe are drum-style), possibly the steering ... I haven't compiled the list yet, but those will probably be the big points of interest. The next step would be to personalize it. This is the part I'm most excited for, but want all restoration to be complete, really, before I begin. I want to widen the fenders, lower it and possibly turbocharge it or swap the engine for a V6 (which would change the route of the initial restoration so I may not do that). The END goal is a car worthy of the track and easy on the eyes. There may be some stages in the middle where I'm toying with the suspension and it is slammed, etc., but I don't think it will stay that way unless I just fall in love with it like that.
As I go along, I'll also ask for opinions and ideas for it, so please stay up-to-date on the thread and let me know what you think would be sweet or what you've never seen on a B-GT
I should also mention that I have no experience doing much of anything to a car ... I do have some experience welding, though. I'm thinking that may come in handy eventually, but everything that I do in this build will be new to me and I'm so excited to get started. Which is mostly why I'm creating this thread now. That and to push me to stay focused and get it done!
Let me know if you're uninterested and I'll just keep my progress to myself.
I believe that's it for now.
Onward and upward, my friends.
