  • Project Stereotypical (Mk5 Golf)

Been lurking on here for too long now and decided it would be best to start a thread of what I have managed to achieve to get to what I would call my first car. My interest in cars spawned from growing up in my dads breakers yard where I would always be amazed by the amount of cars, years later at the age of 14 I purchased my first car, a 1992 Vw Polo Cl Coupe. It allowed me to gain a general understanding of car maintenance and so on but I got bored and then sold it on a price to good to pass. Next up was the 2001 6n2 Polo I acquired a few months later for an absolute steal, it had faded paint on the rear quarter and bumper from a previous accident and hardly any of the electrics didn't work. I bought coilovers and then loss interest and sold it on.

Then one day browsing through the auctions I spotted out the mk5, it was dirty, real dirty and looked a bit scruffy, but it was in budget and way below the price for what they go for. Next week comes along and I own it, we was worried how it would run at first as we only viewed it online, however my dad drove it back home and it run sweet as a nut. I plan to stick with this one as the insurance was cheaper than the polo before hand, im soon to be 17 within the next month so it will hopefully take off a bit more then

Ayyy another kid from england, love that

I recently turned 18 but bought my 6n2 when I was 17, hoping to drop it by Summer

I know insurance prices vary all over England, but I'm amazed you can get cheaper insurance on a mk5 golf than a 6n2

            I presume the Golf is a 1.4? or a 1.6

And i presume no mods are gonna be declared haha, that mental barrier is the only thing stopping me from crackin on with my 6n2

Yeah it worked out significantly cheaper with no mods declared so far and it is a 1.4, I guess because more polo's are used by people around our age. You cant be that far away I am only just outside London

Yeah I'm about a 15 minute drive from the M25 in a town called Sutton

Insurance would be cheaper cause it's a newer car too

keen to see what you do to it, you going stupid low or just low enough?

Not far at all, other side of Croydon sort of

With running the 18's on 225/40/18's il run stock for a while whilst I save for coilovers, it won't look to much to a monster truck so its fine, especially with driving to my school which only has curb parking and speed bumps littered everywhere...

Il probably go just low enough when I get coilovers and then dial fitment in a bit later on when I start messing about with camber etc

Car flew through its MOT in the week and has just come back from the bodyshop, had the mouldings colour coded as well as the lower part of the rear bumper, a few major dents pulled and a couple scuffs removed, still have a few little nicks around which I will eventually do my self.

Also removed the monster RCD300 display that came with car and replaced it with a single din fascia conversion because I need an aux, for being an aftermarket part the fitment was good but I have heard better things about the genuine vw ones which only seems to exist in the US...

Oh and there was something quite special lurking in the boot

It was the cheapest option as I had most of the stuff to do it and I can't deal with the radio or having an aux in the glovebox

It is tempting but they are in need of some work

Been a while, passed my test and got the car insured so motivation is back. Got a dslr in the time being so will start using it soon, anyway it has not changed too much over the time

Switched out the broken clear indicators for the smoked ones to initially match the mirror

The speedlines have been refurbed and tyred up ready to go on this week hopefully!

                              Major Updates:

Finally got the speedlines on after sorting out the problem with not having a locking wheel nut, got back from the tyre shop and fitted them asap. Cant go for lows yet due to insurance but its not too much of a monster truck.
