  • Boston Green E36 Touring

    Hi Everyone,

This is my first build thread, it's also my first ever car project and I've got no clue mechanically so I'm relying on friends and bit of luck. Im 29 and from the Black Country in the West Midlands UK. Ive always loved BMW's, specifically tourers. This is reflected in my car history as I'm on my 4th one now. My daily is a 530d M Sport Touring.

This thread will be about my new project car. Ive always loved e36's and thought if one came about at the right price id go for it. So I found her on Gumtree advertised in Hull. I drove her 200+ miles home and she didn't skip a beat.

Its a 1999 BMW E36 323i. 110000 miles 4 owners. Full service history with what appears to be minimal rust and a well looked after old girl.

Its got an awful interior and a slight nock at the front suspension but all in all £400!!! what a bargain!

Plans are sort our the suspension, sport bumpers, coilovers, new interior and most importantly some e34 Throwing Stars!

    Thanks for looking!

So last weekend when the weather was pretty decent i decided to take some of the interior out and see what the new one looked like.
First job was do give the old girl a clean...

I also got the daily done too

There was a load of crap behind the seats like sawdust and paint!

I also managed to bend a screwdriver whilst trying to pry off some of the trim - I did say I was useless.

Its still not quite finished as I managed to miss place some of the trim, il post an update when its all done.

I also managed to get the one thing I've been wanting for ages! A set of throwing stars!

They are off an e31 8 series so i think they have a different fitment than the e34's. I did a test fit on a rear with my dad today. Clearly the tyres need to go but I'm still unsure how I'm going to get them to fit. Any advice is much appreciated!

Can't really tell anything about the fitment from that photo, need a photo to show how much they are poking out the arch...

Nice base for a project though!

Sorry for the long delay in updating the thread. Ive had a ton of problems with the DPF on my daily driver which has been eating all of my cash and time. The good news is, i have a pretty epic update. Thanks to the help of Scott Paterson aka Minuki I have finally fitted the throwing stars and she looks amazing! Shout out to the boys from Tyre care Bromsgrove as they were keen as mustard to get stretching those tyres. I can't wait to fit the coilovers now and get the front down. Il let the pictures do the talking.

The rear looks pretty sweet but I'm going to need to get the arches rolled once I've got the lows. Im chuffed to bits though she's starting to come together nicely. Still got a lot of parts ready and waiting to be fitted so watch this space.

Oh mate, you've pulled it out the bag! Scott knows everything there is to know about Tourings so he's definitely the go to man haha

I kinda hope you dont plan on getting the M-kit for it, seems like everyone with tourings goes for it and the non M-kit is quite classy in my opinion.

Excited to see the coils on man!

On another note, how did you end up cracking open that fog light haha

                      Good start to the build!
I run my throwing stars backwards, I think they look better, it will look good once you get the coilovers on

Haha thanks bud, took me ages to find the right wheels but I got them in the end. Its starting to look good now. Ive got an m kit for it already however i have to agree they do look cool without. Il wait and see what happens. Should get the coils on over the next couple of weeks too.

The bumper was me being a donut, I dropped it and the fog light just fell out and broke!

Haha I wandered how long it would take for someone to say something! The thing is it looks like I have 3 that face one way and one that faces another?

Thanks for your help with the tyre sizes.

One of the things that bugs me about the e36 is the central locking. As I've never had 36 before the key just makes no sense. I changed the battery today as when you press the button nothing happened. Now all i get is an amber light when you press it. Is this meant to be central locking or should I have another fob? When you turn the key in the door all the doors lock and unlock so they do work, just not sure if it should happen from the remote key. Any advice would be great.
