  • Story of Margret - E39

This is Margret, my 1998 BMW E39 520i

I bought her in June 2015 with 200.000 km (128.000 miles) on the clock from the second owner, who owned the car for 15 years and did some magic to it.

Stock the car had velours seats, no m package and was rolling on 15" stock bmw wheels.
He added the M Package, Full black leather interior, M Sports steering wheel, 16:9 satnav, eibach lowering springs and 17" BBS RC090 wheels.

    That's how I got her.

I didn't do any changes to her for quite some time until December '15 when i installed a bluetooth and USB Interface, M TEC LED bulbs for the corona rings and interior lights and replaced the rear license plate frame with 3M Duallock velcro. (shitty pics incoming)

In January 2016 I replaced the stock grey headliner with a black one I bought from ebay, to finish what the PO started and to complete the M sports package retrofit.

    old vs. new

    in the car

In February 2016 there was some general manintenace to do.
New battery, new brakes, new thermostat, new alternator regulator and finally a complete coilover kit to lower the shit out of this rustbucket!

Installing these beauties (a lot of thread left)

The car back on its wheels.

    Further plans:
    - lowering the car as soon as winter is over
    - getting those BBS wheels back on as soon as winter is over
    - tinting headlights and taillights
    - some respraying will have to be done
    - rolling the fenders
    - spacers

In about 3-4 weeks summer tires are getting back on and the leftover thread will be history.

    Stay tuned guys!

Finally found the reason for my high fuel consumption

Lowered her a tad and gave her a good clean + wax.

Thanks dude, i was pretty lucky finding the car in that condition for the price I paid.

The leather will soon get a little refurbishment though, I want it to be as good as new again

Lower it a little more and re-lip those style 5's (if that's what those are). Wait never mind I'm pretty sure they are 2-piece, damn beemer heads always confuse me. Anyways The color of this thing is super rad and like everyone else already said that interior is mint. Keep up the good work. I'd kill to see this thing with some stepped 19' style 5's, some camber and a little lower.

Thank you for your kind words. I have already considered re-lipping the wheels (Style 5/ BBS RC090) but that's not as easy as it sounds here in germany. I found a 3 piece and 18" conversion kit from the us for quite some money, but it's impossible to drive these legally here in germany.

The idea is still there though.

The plan is getting some 19" BBS Le Mans Replica wheels (8,5" front, 9,5" rear).
A friend of mine has these wheels and i like them, I will test fit them next week, take some shots, and decide whether i will buy them or not

Next step will be playing with camber and spacers to get the fitment right
