Cheers guys, hopefully I'll be able to sort out the arches real soon. There's a few other scratches and dings on the doors I really want to get done too. Once its up to scratch I'll start looking into colour schemes and designs for the car!

I haven't thought about Early Edition to be honest, I might try and get there, dependant on work goes etc. etc.

      Finally, a bit of news!
I managed to get round to buying tyres for the Alpina reps. It was pretty good timing, because the day after I ordered them, this happened...

Untitled by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

So I stuck the tyres on and painted the wheels

Untitled by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

This is how they stand right now.

They need a bit of fettling to sort them out completely. They rub on the arch right at the front where the bumper meets, but hopefully thats just a simple fix.
I did find out that the coilovers are a mess though, so I think they will need replacing soon, they're so seized and it took me 45 minutes to move the O/S/F three threads, as well as breaking notches off the adjuster nut.
It gave me a chance to spot a few other things I need to sort out ASAP too, like wheels bearings, aux belts etc.

Cheers man, not sure how long it will stay though. It's a mix of a few different colours I had left over, and if I sort out some centre caps it's going to be a PITA to match.

So, it's been a while, but things are moving forward! The Mk3 is no longer my daily! I got it into my head that I needed a larger car because of my rapidly growing German Shepherd puppy. So after looking at B7 S4's and C5 RS6's then backing out because of maintenance bills, a friend put this up for sale and I couldn't stay away from it! An Audi A6 Allroad 2.5 TDI, Cream leather Recaros, Rotiform CCV's, Airlift with V2, random ICE parts (including custom built sub/twin amp box is the boot so I don't actually have much more room for the dog, but it has a dog guard so thats my excuse). Hopefully I'm going to change up a few things before the summer when I'll try and get round a few shows in it.

            BACK TO THE MK3!

It is currently off the road and at work! I've been busy!

Work were kind enough to let me take up some space and make use of our booth etc. so I just right in and have started the process to give it a new lease of life!
I've repair all the damage, and reworked the rear quarters, cleaned up the inner arches an got it all ready for primer, which I managed to do a few evenings later...

And I even had some time to play around with an old Halfords advanced tool box which is now my main storage for tools at work.

DSC00236_Fotor by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

I have also got some new wings for the Golf as they had rotted out at the bottom and had just as much damage for being rolled. They're paint and currently roughly fitted to the car so I could then roll the arches properly before repainting with rest of the car.
It is now nearly all prepped and just needs masking hopefully ready to paint one evening this week!

            More updates soon, I promise!

              BIG PROGRESS

For the most part, I've got the old girl painted!

Respray by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

I'm pretty damn happy with it. There are a few things that could be improved, as always, you find things too late. There are a few tiny dents in the drivers door, just from parking and things, but you have to really throw your head around to see them.

Respray by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

Also, as you can see, the rear arches are not perfect, but I'm no too fussed, they were a complete mess, (you can see in previous photos) so there are a few nicks in the roundness. To fix this though, really I would have had to add weld and reshape them and I didn't want to get into that. Doing it with filler, I would probable just knock it out with the wheel if I hit a bumper or something.
Another part of the car I didn't attack were the sills. They're partially beaten in from hitting speed bumps and things. I've pulled the lip back down though, and that seems to help quite a bit, but I didn't want to pin pull them and then have to add filler, because again, I will probably just knock it straight back out again.

I still need to do the bumpers, bonnet and roof. I was going to try and avoid the roof, but I don't think I will be happy with the colour match afterwards so will go ahead and do it. I would always have done it separately anyway, its easier. And then, I'm not sure whether to flow coat the lot, basically flat and re-lacquer it to get a much deeper look to the paint. I probably will... If work don't make me move it first!

I've also been working on some slightly more creative painting. Something I've wanted to do since way before I started painting cars...

DSC00270_Fotor by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

I'm super stoked with this and shall continue with these and hopefully make progress with it! I've ordered some Tropical Glitz paint and will be getting some Kandies. I want this to become a big thing for me. Please, if anyone has any ideas for work, contact me, I will be doing good deals to help improve my skills! Also, It seems like something like this could make its way onto this car... maybe some lace .

At first I thought this was some part of the car, lol. Looks really good.

Maybe some interior bits painted like that, and maybe the roof. Would be a very lowrider-scene thing to do.

                    Thanks man, appreciate it.
Ive got a few ideas for adding work like this to my cars, don't worry! Maybe I should get an old Impala or something though? haha

                    Tom's my best friend!
I actually went up to see hime this Friday to go and see Sum41!
I may have also come back with some car goodies...

I bought these from Tom a while ago, but it the first time we've seen each other for a while. They're supposed to be for my Mk2 project, but I can't see that needing this set up for a while so it'll be on the Mk3 for a while. I also picked up some new gutter seals for the Mk3 after the Longleaf monkeys has their way with them back in November.
I'll get the car back home soon hopefully and work on servicing the car and fitting a few parts I have, then playing with the air ride and notches and wheel fitment.
I can't decide which car to get on the road for shows this summer.

Ah that's sweet man! I was supposed to shoot Tom's MK3 this weekend but he busted a driveshaft so we had to cancel those plans.

His mk3 sat soooo well on that air set up, so I say get the MK3 road worthy!

Oh it certainly did! I'll have to see what I can do with the wheels I've got for now. I'm toying with the idea of painting them a dirty gold that I have left over from some old Ducati wheels.

Once the cars back on the road I expect I'll be at most of the shows with Tom so I'm sure I'll get to say hello! I'll sort out buying some stickers soon too and get reppin'

Right, a little bit more progress now, it's been slow going but starting to get somewhere now.
I've had a few other things on the go that have slowed me down...

Went on holiday to West Coast USA and drove a Mustang from Vegas to LA via Yosemite and what not.

DSC00747 by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

Actually ended up getting engaged out there! So that's kept us busy for a bit!

Also been working on other projects for people, progressing with my paint work in the direction I really want to...

Untitled by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

                          Anyway, back to the Golf...

The car is back home, and I have wet flatted and polished the lot. Im fairly happy with it but I haven't seen it out in the sun yet, I expect I will have to give it a final cut before I'm pleased.

The last few parts (apart from the mirrors because I forgot about them) are painted...

Untitled by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

So I've started to refresh a few parts, they all came with the car when I bought it and I thought this was as good a time as any to stick the lot on.

Untitled by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

I haven't put the tie rod ends on yet because I was planning to get the tracking and everything done when the car is MOT'd so I'll leave that to them.

DSC00916_Fotor by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

I've stone chipped the rear arches, the fronts were done before I painted it. And the bags are fitted.

DSC00932_Fotor by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

The rear I'm quite happy with for now, seeing as no planning has gone into using the old wheels.

DSC00924_Fotor by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

The front though... It needs a lot of fettling, the geometry is WAY off as I shall show you in a second... I think with a bit more negative camber it will sit a bit better. But really I need to sort out some notches. I was going to go this myself before I got to this stage, but I really don't want to so I think I will get a localist garage, Coltech Classics to do it a little bit down the line.

In this face on photo you can see how the passenger side is sitting, shoved with up against the arch and straight...

DSC00923_Fotor by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

                          Then the other side...

DSC00937_Fotor by Joe Mallett, on Flickr

It's just all over the show... I'm going to have a little fiddle with it and get it a bit better, but the finer fettling I will leave until I know everything is point forwards at least...

Today I stripped the interior out ready to lay all the lines, hopefully I can get some of that done during the week. I want to get in back on the road as soon as possible really as I am having trouble with the Audi right now (I **** the thing). So hopefully, if I play my cards right, I can get it to Players Classic

Thats a nice car man, theres a little place in my heart for a poverty spec!

Not too sure on the plan really, it's going to be my daily again for a while and not sure how long for. I'd love to start upgrading other parts too, like convert rear brakes to discs, larger front, exhaust. I have always had a 1.8t in the back of my mind for it at some point but whether that will ever happen, I don't know. As for the interior, again I'm not sure, I quite like the GL velour seats in it and they're really tidy! But some grey tweed centred Recaros would be my dream seats.

I've just stuck the air tank in the boot of my daily, so I expect that will get colour coded this week
But I'm tempted to get some lowrider style into it and that would be a good start? I want to have a go at making my own hard lines too.

All of this is just thoughts at the moment though, and I have a Mk2 with a smooth bay and currently not a lot else that really needs to take priority once I have the Mk3 back on the road...

Cheers bro! She served me well until I replaced her with a vr6.

You thinking some pin striping? Could do the tank to match too ! And keep the poverty seats I managed to get a wood bottom wheel and a nardi wood shifrknob and replaced the interior with vr leathers, 1.8t would be the way to go for me.

How about pole positions and recover the cushions in the material from the stock seats?
