  • Sakura The Form > Function EF B20 Build

Hey guys, been a avid reader of SW for some time now. Love the features, love the build threads -- it always inspires me.

Had some free time so I figured I'd post up my build... which is still very much a work in progress.

I am from Cape Town, South Africa, just thought I'd mention that LOL. I took ownership of this 91' model Civic EF Sedan (although in SA it is refers to as the Honda DOHC) last year, the car was in pretty banged up condition, but it had a sunroof yaaaaay!! The car wasn't driving right as the clutch was slipping, exhaust blowing, had no radio, no lights, and it was over-fueling like MAD....oh and the starter was pretty much shot to shit. But even so, I saw potential in her as I always wanted something of the older JDM stable, also I needed another ride as I had just sold my Nissan SSS Sedan.

The main focus has been to make the car reliable for A to B.

So here is a timeline from when I bought her to where she is now (mechanically):

The night I bought the car:

    Straight to my mechanic:

Fitting new starter motor plus SOUND SYSTEM LOL:

Sorting the tension cable on the clutch so that the car could take me on a brekafast run that I organised for my photography plat form -- here's some pics I took:

    The interior, still very original:

Decided it's time for a new clutch:

    NEW:

As mentioned above the car was over-fueling quite a bit as it is running a Honda B20B motor with a D16A9 ECU, so I decided it's time to go full management. I did lot's of research and opted for Dictator STD Management with an External Coil setup. here's a pic of the night I towed her away to avoid a bearing knock:
    12188927_10207665889272944_1614201954742437865_n

    When she returned:
    1590_10207926380065051_3348103104549666102_n

Very first wash since I bought the car. Car is dropped, so I could get in the car wash port properly as my sump couldn't make it LOL... Such is life:

    10955331_10207639833701571_9008766451377113110_n

    Interior made fresh:

    10174824_10207974157659461_3935719930930582673_n

Seats that came out of my previous car, original Sparco Tuner Series bucket seats:
    12088434_10207526793395634_7114573544849110416_n

And that is pretty much it update wise. I have done a few other things to the car as well. After the car was fitted with management system it was road tuned twice, but my dizzy kept blowing and after replacing it twice I sought alternatives and ran the external coil set up then had her Dyno tuned and she made 107KW and 207nm, which I am very happy with considering it is BONE stock.

When payday comes I will be redoing the entire suspension, fitting exhaust, CIA and a Mugen header and then prep for respray... After which I will be doing my B20VTEC high comp build.... so stay tuned!!

haha yeah bro, I love a nice interior but for race day the car will be stripped inside and only the buckets will go in. I'm in the process of deciding whether to do Air or Coilovers though, but I am unsure of the pros for air cos this is my race car

Here's a pic of my previous Nissan Sentra that I built from the ground up. Nothing spectacular, but she meant the world to me. I called this one Reiko (first love):

And here's a pic of my other love. Nissan Sabre 200GXi (known as the Pulsar SSS SR20, however this is the facelift version sold only in South Africa, same like my Sentra).

Awe, a South African thread.. Looks sick bro, I was going to ask if you even needed to drop it, cause those cars are pretty low as standard?

Dig the sabre, it's not often you see one of those, always loved them.

haha Awwweee Bro!!! Hoe gaan dit LOL? Yeah, they are naturally low cars but a decent drop is needed to reduce wind play when either doing drags, Kanjo or Touge!! Haha The Sabre is definitely my fav and they have grown popularity since the VVL buzz lol
