Hello!
back for a bit of an update. The next biggest job was to swap over the air and coilovers on the E28's. My issue started with the wheels as silly as it sounds. The cream style 5's would only fit on the car with air and the e36 alloys only on the car with coilovers (due to them hitting the struts).
So I set to it! I planned to whip the air off the black one first and prepare it to go on the new one. I first took out all the air lines, wires and labled the lot. jacked the black one up and started taking the struts out. (not many pictures as its pretty straight forward)
With all the air ride off I cleaned it all and checked the overall condition, which to my suprise was very good! GREAT.
Next job was to get the coilovers off the new one. no particular issues! all plain sailing.
HOVER BIMMER
I actually managed to swap it all over on a gravel driveway. yes not particularly safe but all I had to work with and did it all over a weekend! - Plus its all im used too, DRIVEWAY BUILDS FOR THE WIN!
The black one all back together!
Now I could concentrate on installing the air into my new E28 properly as on the black one a so-say 'profesional' company installed it and i dont even have words for how shocking it was:
You can see the attempt of wiring here which when I was removing there were extra wires that just looped and in a stupid place where the bonnet shuts crimping the wires!:
It is quite an old setup and still used solenoids so for now I kept this with the intent on upgrading soon when I had the spare cash.
SO back to the instillation:
Heres my comparison regaurding the wires in the bay. All nicely tucked in with the loom and hardly visable. (Please excuse the engine bay I hadnt got round to that just yet!)
WHAT A MESSSSSS!
I took up the front carpets to run all the lines and wireing properly. Again going back to the black one the install was literally thown at it I believe and it didnt get better inside. The dual air gauge was just plonked in the dash and the switches made to fit into the stereo surround. It was lousy. With this install I wanted to hide most of the controls and gauge etc.
I purchased some rear window switches and cut holes in the pannel surrounding the gearstick, (where the original rear switches would have been) and then wired the manual air ride up and down into these switches so they looked factory.
I also moved the gauge into the glove compartement also to hide it out of view when unused. so the result was a factory looking cabin without all the modern stuff rearing its ugly head! PERFECT. Theres a video on photobucket but not seeming to work at the moment!
So there we have it, The swap is done, reasonably easy and I had managed to do more to the Weinrot one in a few days of ownership over not touching the Black one after owning it nearly a year!
MORE COMING UP!!!!Last edited by Classique_Autowerks; 01-04-2016, 04:29 AM.

Didn't quite expect that more of a response! Thanks for the warm welcome!
I'm currently in the French alps, next to Geneva. I'm working backwards as I bought the car nearly 6months ago.
Been busy working on her today but will tell you what on a bit later down the line. Heres a little teaser. A lot further than that and IG followers will know what I'm up too!

Nice looking car. I miss the availability of E28's in the UK. Am now living in Aus and they are few and far between. Looks like a good buy for sure.

Welcome to the forums by the way, it's real nice seeing some more UK guys on here. So are you currently in the UK or the French alps? I'm a bit lost haha
I've seen quite a lot of both your red and black E28s all over instagram and such. Great to see them on here. In for more!

UK E28 Build Wienrot Fairytale: Drift Whore to Classy Princess.
Hello,
Im new to the forum and from UK but have recently moved to the French alps.
I'm Samuel Cole, 20 and have a serious addiction to cars. (anyone that personally knows me will agree!) I've had too many to keep count.
Before we start my fairtail of drift whore to classy princess here's a few of my previous cars.
Rather Dapper Passat B6:
Polo mk2 saloon:
BMW 1602 The one I should have kept:
Also Started a heavy Berg cup build with a MK1 but sold it all in bits to fund moving.
Theres a whole load of pictures on photobucket of the golf if your interested!
But back to the story I will start our story with my previous E28:
Little picture from players classic after some shineys where purchased
Luke ward built the car and it showed up on ebay a few years later. I fell in love and it was purchased with intent of doing some minor things and just to roll it for a few years. However bought it a bit blind and she had majour rotting and needed alot of attention. Also a few months into ownership some nice person decided to give it a new paintjob with nitromours:
So this made my mind up, but having caught the BMW bug and loving the shape and feal of the e28 the search for another soon began. A few weeks later one came up for sale and a few hours later I was in the car going to view the thing.
Was alot straighter, paint wasnt quite so bad (with a gorgeous colour) and needed alot less welding (the main reason) but a big temtation was the jump from 1.8 M10 to the lovely 6 pot M30 in the new one! Heres a few pictures from the advert:
SO, Brought her back home after a few thousand exchanged hands. I didnt buy with the RF's. Bought some cheapy e36 alloys from scrap to bring her home on. Still had coilovers which the previous owner had custom built. TRUST ME when I say this thing was lower static than my bagged black one, insane!
The previous owner infromed me it was going to be used for drifting and was in the state of a drift car, some bits missing, some broken, you get the idea...
Anyways after a long very bumpy but yet quite satisfying drive home back to base the start of the transformation began!
My immediate plan was to swap over the air and coilovers on the e28's as I wanted to keep mine bagged. Get the black one sold and pile some money into the weinrot one.
Due to the paint type on the car the shine fades very quickly and was becoming pink in areas! Again, anyone who knows me personally im a bit ocd when it comes to cleaning.
Some pictures of when I first got her back:
Then the mess that is the engine bay :S
Both my sweethearts together:
First things first a good wet sand, multistage polish and wax ETC.
During:
Cleaning behind bumpers:
After:
So after a little play and swapping a few bits over between the two the main job of the suspension was soon underway.Last edited by Classique_Autowerks; 01-04-2016, 04:21 AM.
