Here is my 85 Grey Market e28 the day I bought it.

I couldn't handle all the governmental additions that had to be added to make it licensable. So I removed them.

Oh this is pretty cool, i never knew there were "grey market" e28s. Does this mean the car was imported new and modified to meet US standards, or was it just imported before the 25 years were up? (weird question, I know but this really has me intrigued.)

What I found was it spent it's early life in France. The it was brought into the US somewhere in California. The new owner spent a ton on having it modified for us regs. door bars, bumper bars, side marker lights, running lights in the front blinkers, o2 sensors and Cat added, they even had a factory sunroof installed. Here is a picture of a 84 french coin I found under the carpet.

Even put US lights in and removed the euro big and littles CRAZYNESS

I've always been on of those 'e28 EU bumpers > US bumpers' kind of guys.
This makes me happy man, great job, looking forward to seeing more progress.

                  Yes!! this is looking dope.

How come you used a black ground coat? For a darker shade on the base or was it a stage colour?

I thought it was weird but that was what it called for. when I received the paint I was like how is this gonna cover the black it was like a tinted clear with pearl and metallic. I could see the bottom of the can with a flash light. After 7 light coats it turned out pretty good.
