You really need to read this completely and get a grasp of what the tire size numbers mean, its really confusing you I think. Your going to want to run 205 40 17 on an 8.5j wheel if you want some more meat on the tire(in relation to sidewall) then a 205/45/17 will work as well. So the tire is 205mm wide, the sidewall is going to be 40% or 45% of that 205mm width and 17 is the rim size.

I'm pretty sure i understand it. first number is width in mm sidewall to sidewall

i just don't really get the middle number. like can you run a 205/30 too? will that mean a thinner tire? than a 205/40 cause its a percentage of the first number right??? i guess still confused..

What do you want in stance? Like this? Look in this thread for that car... As previously posted, 16s and 17s look small on e46s, and you have to be really slammed to pull that off, the guy in the pic is on 18s

yes if you start with the same section width (205) a 40 will be be taller in relation to the sidewall hight than a 35 series sidewall. By 10% so by like 10mm(205mm/100x5=10.25mm). its difficult to compare tire sizes that are different section widths because you are changing two variables in the equation. you need to find the section width you want based off of the final offset you will be running and then decide on a sidewall based on how low and what kind of proportions you want to go with.

Yeah I want my car to be stretched tires and poked out a little with as good amount of negative camber in the rear. Those look great i would just want a little bit more camber.

regarding the 17s, I'm on a budget right now and k1s are all i can afford and they only come in 17 x 8.5. imma try to go as low as possible and then maybe get a camber kit if someone can recommend a good one.

heres a e46 with koseis. I thought it would look good stanced?

edit not my picture at all

oh i see. thank you so much man that was so much knowledge i could actually grasp

so i might be wanting to run something like a 205 30 in the front for a stretch look, since the height will be smaller?
yeah the two different variables really fuck me.

for offset i wanna run something like et 10-15
so i guess ill have to figure out spacers and all that after tires

I don't get it, first you want no fender roll, but you want more aggressive than the e46 I posted, then you want them to poke? and no lows? I think 8.5 is almost too small to make the real stretch and flush... The pic I stole was on 10 wide et +12 and +10....

Edit: I guess what I'm asking is do you want a meaty-flush not totally dumped look or a hella-slammed-stretched look? Because super stretched tires look horrible if it isn't dumped IMO... You can pull off a meaty flush mildly stretched look and not be totally dumped, but without the fender roll, they can only be either 1, not very low. Or 2, not very flush but low...
