  • 1985 BMW 528i E28

    Hi All,

I have been looking on this forum for a long time now and never joined, so thought it was about time I did.

Have just purchased a 1985 E28 528i manual with an E34 3.5 engine fitted. It goes very well and I just love it to bits. it needs a lot of work and currently have a list as long as my arm to get it back to some sort of standard.

I will attached some photos shortly.

This is my first E28, but not my first BMW by far, have previously had the following:

    so a pretty good list.

My plans for this current car are getting it back to a road worthy standard and tidy it up. The previous owner had the car for ten years and although the running gear is all good, the exterior and interior is rubbish.

I have also just purchased some cross spoke wheels that will replace the style 4's that it currently sits on.

New wheels fitted with 5mm spacer all around due to fronts rubbing on suspension strut very slightly.

it photographs well, but has a lot of imperfections.

this week I received the majority on the front end suspension and steering components. Today I will order the remainder and get some parts from BMW.

Progress this week is new chrome surround for rear screen

            this is what was removed

Tow bar removed and undamaged bumper fitted

Then fitted the front spoiler, is a period item to the year of the car so well pleased with it.

            More progress to come.

Wow man thats an impressive collection!
It's a big goal of mine to try out my favourite looking BMWs one day.
Do you still have any of your previous ones and what are the reasons for switching?
And most importantly what's your favourite of the bunch?
Looking forward to updates on the E28 too

Yes is a good collection and am always changing as like to work on the cars and once they are complete I drive them for 4 to 6 months and then another car turns up, so sell on the previous one. I like the challenge of finding parts and making the cars the way I want them. This normally means back to stock. BMW's look so good in full factory trim.

The best of the BMW's. cannot pick one as they all did something different.

The most fun to drive was the E30 335i manual. loads of grunt and did everything great.

The best family car was the green e34. M50 5 speed auto, comfortable, easy to drive and went pretty well

The best cruiser was by far the E12, was such a cool car. you never need to go fast or do anything silly, just cruise.

They have now all been sold. I had 5 at one point, but needed to move interstate so sold everything and I had a 12 month break from it. Now just got the E28 so loving get back underneath a car and finding parts etc.

                Updates will be coming soon.

so car is slowly getting sorted now.

New Shocks and braided brakes lines all around, new rear brake pads, fitted C-pillar trims and painted all the plastics satin black. looks heaps better.

Have started de-greasing the underside but after 30 years, it needs a lot of scrubbing. Then I just need to fit the new gear lever bushes and some welding and it will be ready to cruise the streets.
