  • A Corrado vr6 and Golf 3.5 cabby from the U.K.

Hi, the names Greg. I've been lurking around on here for a couple of weeks now drooling over some of the builds! So I thought I would fail at trying to impress people with my 2 haha hope you like them!!!

First is my Rado. Had it for nearly 2 years now and it aint really got that far and don't really know which direction im heading with it yet. I bought it for £450 as spares or repair from ebay. It was advertised as having 75k on it and not running because things had been removed from the engine it was also an auto so I was hopefull that the engine wouldn't have been pushed to hard in its life. It looked like this.

it did come with a few spare bits tho haha

got it running a couple days later and it ran amazing for not running I nearly 4 years!!! Promptly ripped the engine out to start smoothing the bay and chuck the auto box. the engine then ended up going into my Cabby oops haha.

started re routing wires got headlights running down the chassis legs and a few things routed in the rain tray

started making a customish rear bumper to fit the twin upswept back box that was on so making the exhaust hole wider and smooth the tow eye. this still needs work but wanting it to be one of those things that people have to take a second look at.

found a couple bad rust spots that I still need to sort.

I had to move out the unit I was in so to get it back on wheels I refurbed and polybushed a new subframe for it. which also ended up going into the cabby once I had the rado in another garage oops.

anyway last pic of it is outside its new home.

I will do a right up on the cabby another day as my brain is hurting now but here is a pic for now

    thanks for reading!

Have you taken that Cabrio to Players or Players Classic? Seems really familiar.
I'm definitely down to see a build thread of that.
Also excited to see where this Corrado build goes

Right the cabby. thanks to STU? for a bit of history on it. little back story is, he built it for his misses, buying a fair few parts for it from myself. they got it as a 1.6 with cloth interior on coilovers and audi rep wheels.
It soon got blue black colour concept leather, highline door pockets bought from myself, 5 stud swap and vr6 front breaks bought from myself, stubby wing mirrors, chopped up and fitted a rado superspint oval back box bought from myself and lupo GTI aero wipers bought from myself.
They also got it painted when we had a unit with a booth in. The colour is jazz blue but the mix had loads of metallic in it which I think looks better haha.
When I bought the car It had a set of corrado speedlines on that I had sold them. I don't have any pics of it like this but I promptly put my Porsche wheels on fixed a couple rattles and dropped the coilovers again and ran it like this for a while.

I bought the car knowing I was going to put the vr6 from my corrado in it. MOT ran out and it failed on a couple of things so I thought why not do the swap while I was fixing the problems haha. this was the first time I had done an engine coversion so I wanted to take my time with it, it ended up taking nearly 3 months.
Pretty much all parts on the engine got a clean and paint and the bay got a good scrub when the engine was out.
I have used a mk3 vr6 rad and corrado fans and just welded up brackets to mount them to as that's what I had to hand.

I had bought a set of old vr6 coolant hoses when I did the swap and ended up bursting 2 pipes so decided to get a set of silicone one I did order a black set but a blue set turned up but I kinda like it, I also got bored and coloured in the lettering.

I didn't like the cone filter so eventually got round to getting a standard vr6 air box and put a load of holes in it haha. I think it looks so much nicer.

the paint was looking a bit tired so me and a friend decided to have a go with a polisher and was pretty happy

And how it looks now. as STU? said I managed to get a set of Porsche wheels that he had spent allot of money getting powder coated and polishing them. he sold them to a friend who had a bit of bad luck so needed cash and made me an offer I just couldn't say no to for my black Porsche wheels and a little cash.

As I said I also put a fully polybushed front subframe in with new everything on it but didn't get and pictures of that. Its MOT time in a couple of weeks so the wheels will be coming of again for the winter and getting split and re polished. Plans for the car over winter are,
to get the bay looking a little cleaner may be a wire tuck
polybush clean and paint rear beam
may be get the paint sorted as I have spoilet all 4 arches haha.
            I will keep you posted.
Thanks again for reading hope its been a good read.
