thought after owning it for nearly two months id do a little thread, isn't massively interesting at the moment. sold my golf just after buying this, didn't have to advertise it which was good. this was the golf, subframe raised, pd130 conversion, bbs e30s on BC coilovers:

searching for a decent one was a bit harder than I thought, but managed to find this one down the road from me, went to look at it and drove home with it. day I picked it up:

enjoyed driving a stock comfy car, but that never really lasts that long. whilst on Facebook I saw a air setup for a polo that was a set of new universal airlift rears and gaz/Firestone front setup including v2, tank compressor etc. this was ideal for me to make the setup, managed to get it all for a bargain so was happy with that.

also saw these whilst on Facebook, wasn't planning on buying wheels till winter but couldn't help myself. 17x8&9 gotti g1001.

test fitted 😂

the paint looks okay in the pictures but in person was pretty bad, so decided to buy a machine polisher and give it a go. was pretty happy with the results. also got the rear quarter painted as someone had tried to repair a scratch with the totally wrong colour red.

the chrome trim around the window was all yellow, so I got my brother to get it from bmw for me, was a bit surprised they still stocked it.

photo from the trip to retro rides

wasn't planning on taking it off the road till a couple of months but after driving home at 12 at night on a Sunday with no phone it decided it didn't want the spring seat to be attached to the damper anymore, which was fun. anyway next morning I got it recovered and stuff it in the unit. can see the damage and my pikey fix so I was able to move it in, was a bit tight.

was time to start on the air, my complex drawing...

done the rear first. machined bush holders up, nylon bushes and a stainless insert up, then welded the bush holder to the bottom of the airlift strut

then it was the fronts, a bit more complicated but still easy enough. chop the top off the polo item, machined a new damper body, capped the end off and welded to the top part. then machined up a collar to join the air part to the bmw damper body. all a tight fit so the alignment is kept stock.

little test of the drop

with the gottis on

front didn't drop enough so I'm currently making topmounts that'll give me 40mm more drop, should be able to run it low drive height with decent pressure. so was happy with that I decided to start the strip down to replace and paint everything under the car. I knew the ends of the sill would need some attention, but when removing the rear subframe the mounts on the chassis have rotted out, was too upset to take a picture but it looked bad aha.

so that's where I am now. the next updates should be all the welding work on the chassis, always wanted to do a project which would require metal work so I guess that's a plus...
update.
started getting choppy, had to buy a dremel to get into all the tight spots, the thought of having to cut the other side out makes me a bit upset. anyway here's some pictures before I start rebuilding it

also started on my topmounts, gunna tack them up, make a insert and try them out

update.

And that's where I'm up too now. be finishing off the passenger side welding tomorrow and hopefully get a start on the drivers side.
