  • The hoboG35

I've been lurking this forum for quite awhile and I like this place. Full of fun stories and cool builds and I think its time I tell a story.

A story of a laughter pain and amazement.

    I present to you,

The story of how i acquired the hoboG35.

My name is Eazy. I'm a regular guy from the city that loves cars and loves tinkering with them.

    But here's my story,

I first started getting into cars when I got my 1998 Pontiac gtp coupe. It was boosted it was super fast (to me at the time anyways lol) cheap to work on and cheap to make fast. Loved the car so much I've had three of them lol.

Blue one was first but then it died from rust cancer and then came the black one was scored for 500 bucks and just swapped the blue engine in it and then the black got hit and totaled and then I got the silver one.

The silver one starts the story of the hoboG35.

I started to get really bored with my gtp, Yea it was fast and it was modded down to a 3.4 pulley and it really hauled ass. It was lowered and had exhaust work (they sound shitty by the way lol) took the time to make the engine bay awesome

But it was getting old. I had three ya know? Lol. Bunch of my friends have them and I kinda felt like If I sold it I would be betraying them ya know? Lol. Seats felt like crap, thing turned like a boat and the platform was dead.

So I started talking to my buddy who had an 2003 maxima who slowly started persuading me to the import side and how everything is so awesome and blah blah blah lol.

So I started drooling over the G35 after doing some reading and learning and I fell in love with it. I drooled so much that I made it all the backgrounds on my phone and my computer and it had a photo of it in my locker at work.

    The obsession had begun lol.

So the time came for me to sell the prix and hopefully add some cash and finally buy one. If you don't know about Pontiacs they don't hold value. At all. Yes mines was mint, 110,00 miles. Paint was flawless. It was modded and I loved it but I would never get what I wanted for it.

Asked a few of my buddies what could I sell it for and everyone replied maybe 2k but mines what clean and had no issues no rust no anything. Nah bro maybe 2k.

So I was sad. A little disappointed because I just knew I could get 4500 out if it. So I posted it anyways on Craigslist and hoped for the best.

Well the best deals didn't happen, a bunch of tire kickers and bsers. So. I kept driving it.

One day I got a email that was from a buyer asking could he see the car on Friday and I was like great no problem.

I asked where and he said could you drive it out to me in Glen Burnie MD. I immediately said no. If you want to see the car on Friday then you'll have to drive to me.

So we got that settled and he said he'll be out on Friday.

    Great!

Well not so much. He called the next day and asked could I go get it inspected in VA and I said I live in DC and he said well I have to know if could be inspected and pass in VA. I said well I don't know and you'll have to take care of that.

Before I was contacted by him I and already hunted down a seller of a g35 sedan for about 4500. I was like great that's how much the other guy agreed to buy mines for so this should be great. He wanted to meet up to show me the car at my job that day so he bought it to me and I drove it and it was flawless. Mechanical wise. Exterior? Not so much.

It was dipped. Not even a good dip job. It had runs. Texture issues. Everything. But! It was a G35

    Horrible looking right?

He said he dipped it because the hood was messed up and so was the rear bumper. And didn't want to get it painted.

So I told the guy that I was waiting for my seller to buy my car on Friday and he was like what kind of car are you selling and I said a Pontiac and he didn't seem interested until I told him it wasn't an ordinary Pontiac

So I took him to see my car in the parking lot and once I popped the hood he started smiling. He said is it fast? I said Yea it's pretty quick for what it is.

He asked me to start it up and once it started he said you mind if i take it for a spin? I said sure. We drove it and he seemed nervous so I told him relax and punch the gas.

Car took off and he started laughing and said wow, wasn't expecting that. He looked over at me and said how about we just trade?

    I said huh?

He said yup. Trade. No cash. Just swap cars. I was mind blown for a sec and was in my mind like he's kidding.

    But he wasn't.

    Welcome to my hoboG35 thread

I finally obtained the car I was drooling over and I even got it for free. Friends were amazed. I was amazed. They guy wanted to get it checked by his mechanic and that's was fine. Car was in great condition and when the mechanic checked it he said the same.

So the next day I was the owner of a g35 sedan.

          Why a sedan?

          I've had three coupes lol.

So now begins the build of the g35.

Im a hobo. Well not actually but I try to be resourceful instead of spending tons of money on my hobby because I do have other thing's to take care of. Like rent and student loans and all that other soul crushing stuff lol.

Drove the Car for a few weeks and couldn't stand the dip. I ***** it. Told myself I would keep it on until February when I did my taxes but it couldn't do it anymore. So I began to peel.

And It wasn't a good idea lol.

Hood was dreadful. Like who did this? Smh lol.

So now paint was a must. Like this was worse than the dip lol.

The hunt for a paint job began.

Started at maaco, yea I know. Maaco does horrible work but have you seen the hood? Geez lol.

So maaco said 650.00 for a urethane based paint where they mix the gloss with the paint and spray it in one stage.

Nah. I'll pass. Guy was sketchy and kept asking me to leave a deposit for the best price.

          Sketchy.

So as I'm leaving and backing out this happens.

Really?! Apparently there was super small pole behind me and I hit it. Smh.

Well being though the hood and trunk are about 1600 bucks I think I'll have to pass lol.

I just popped the dent out, it's slightly there but really can't see it

So i finally hunted down a paint shop of craiglist for cheap. Like 400.00 bucks cheap. Called the guy and he was pretty cool. It was like an hr away but what am I losing? Just to paint the hood and the bumper alone a shop told me 800.00 Soooooo the craiglist paint job it it's lol.

Time for you to be painted lol

Went to shop and dropped it off and talked to the guy for a bit. He runs a small shop with his daughter and they get the paint cheap from the dealership that's local and in return he paints the cars they receive on trade ins.

So dropped it off and waited.

                  Patiently.

And then! Got a text from the painter with these pics attached

Awesome sauce! Looks great and it's the color I wanted from the beginning. Diamond graphite

A week later and this is what we have.

                  I present to you.

                  The 400.00 dollar paint job

Lol, I could ship my car to the states and painting it would still be cheaper than doing it here on the old continent without shipping

Is it really that bad to get things painted where you are?

So after the paint I decided to remove the awful head unit that was in the car.

It was a Walmart brand radio and it was dreadful

So the wife surprised me a with a android based radio that I've been eyeing for awhile. Basically anything you can do your phone I can do on this radio and I love it!

Ok so now until the fun stuff.

My previous car had lowering Springs. But I always wanted coilovers. Just couldn't justify 1500.00 for coilovers on a Pontiac grand prix but this time it was must.

So the plan was coilovers and wheels and retrofits.

It's usually not $400 here, either.

Out of curiosity, what head unit is that?

It's made by a company called pumpkin. A China based company I'm assuming.
