Somewhere in the transit between previous owner “garage” / new Camaro owner’s shop / my garage, a bag was lost.

Did you ever see Ronin the movie? No?. That rock must be comfy Mr. Patrick.

      What was in that case?

I know what was in that case. My lost bag.

But there is no place you can hide from the LCG. So I found it. Well, actually new Camaro owner’s shop got cleaned and the bag popped out under a pile of body panels. Hm.

So what is inside this mysterious bag that is worth killing your attractive ice skater.

      The cure for cancer? No.
The answer to the universe? No.
A magic pill so you don’t bleed when you are constipated? No.

      Something more valuable.

SSR center caps of course! lots of them as previous owner told me!
Please excuse me here as I will have to dramatize what happened the first time I opened it.

Before I opened the bag I already had done research on the wheels to see if they could be worth something, that is when I came to know that I had a set of Vintageish SSR wheels.

One of those things that no matter how ugly they are they are worth many moneyz to someone crazy.

So I search around and my eyes pop out, there are sets going for 1k to ridiculous 4k for a mint condition set, and I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

The rims could be worth half car, you can imagine how excited I was.

      Back to the bag.

Here I am trying to unknot it without trying to drop the bag to the floor as if I was opening my brand new iphone 6 on national television.

6 newspaper bags and one of them is already half open. SIX!, that plus the one I already have on a wheel makes SEVEN!. No need for a calculator.

I finish pulling all the stuff from the already open newspaper package 1 and I get a complete centercap.

Some evident scars from overcomplicated locking mechanisms getting pretty much stuck for ever.

Who cares, I have another 4 sets.

      Lets open package #2.

      Ah?

There is no easy way to describe what I think my face looked like.

I usually take a moment to analyze what I am holding with eyes half closed and mouth half open while I rotate it and look at it from every angle. Then I look around to see if anyone is watching me.

In a soft almost inaudible murmur I say. What the fuck?

Not in a gross type of way, more in like a disbelief way.

Was this left on a beach and the sea eroded it away?

      Not quite.

There are no words for what you are about to see.

Yes my internet friends, this is a cast.

And not only one, but 4 of them! One even in polished finish for that extra points.

Impressed because come on!, those things must have been done in the 80s by a young not even yet a Doctor. Padawan Frankstain

Disappointed because they are not real caps and worth nothing, the value of the wheels went back to zero.

After a laugh I stored them back to the bag and lost them.

Mind you all this was before I even sat in the car at new Camaro owner’s shop so I had no idea what was coming.

Take a moment and reflect what has the world turned into.

      After that.

I have NEVER been a romantic, of course I love my wife and I truly adore my daughter but when it came to cars I always thought of them as pieces of metal, never understood or accepted people naming them because I thought It was stupid.

And while I still think somewhat that way I do now understand the soul that some cars carry because of their story. And I don’t mean like heritage story but the actual car story.

To me right now this stupid 924 that I bought to completely destroy has won me over, and not because for what it is but because instead of thinking, what a hack job it is, there is a backstory of someone trying to maintain it at whatever cost or method, and other someone letting it rot.

I appreciate it and even have a little respect for it now. Little.

I have been suckling on the titty of patience for you to make an update and I am on the edge of my seat, with what I would say is around a half chub, and I get the news that you found fake center caps... BUMMER . What is up with the porsche, or bmw or anything that is rear wheel drive as of now?

I am truly sorry I disappointed you Evan. This should have been posted way before I even started disassembling the car. But the bag was lost and we just happen to find it just now.

But think of it as a TV series that you follow. There will be episodes that you end up thinking "why would they even bother" or "really? that was it?, where is the rest?". Yet those empty and meaningless episodes are essential to the story.

I also don't want anyone asking if I am dead, or posting stuff with "Insert picture" or even false "updates coming tomorrow" posts.

Sadly, 924 is still the same story, waiting to switch houses. Maybe you need to switch patience tittys because I just went there and looks like it will be another month.

I do have some e38 content but I have to check with my thread making adviser, whether I should create a new thread for it or just post it here as well and just change the title of the thread to something more stanceworky.

I do not want my thread title to say something like "another 911" and have lambo and viper content, that is just ridiculous.

Congratulations, you sir just made me laugh extremely hard. Good luck with the move, forgot about the transition. That render you posted a while back just gave me a little automotive orgasm... I'm switching titties.

                      • After talking with my thread making adviser he suggested:

"up to you, you can either combine it into one thread or start a separate one"

He is a VERY wise man, I don't know why I did not think of that.

So here it is.. Another "adventure"...

                        The E38: An unexpected journey

This way at least I will have an excuse for a thread without updates.

                        • Joined StanceWorks just for this thread. Nice learning about these gloves, looked up some AMG engine build videos and some of the techs seem to use knitted gloves from 'Strong Hand', anyone try that brand gloves? I agree that latex gloves are annoying and sweaty. Going to try knitted..

                              • This thread makes me happy for so many reasons

You are very witty, and you don't take any of this too seriously, which is refreshing.

Your pictures are actually clear, focused, and taken with a real camera.

You include all of the less glamorous steps of the build process, including setbacks, sidetracks, and delays, which...
...is way more authentic than most build threads.
...shows people who haven't done it before what kind of dedication it takes to truly see a project like this through to the finish.

The car itself has such an interesting personality and history, and is totally worthy of being rescued and resurrected.

And... you're just getting started! The best is yet to come.
