soo i've got a update once again!

figured i'm going to keep myself busy with the details since there isn't much i can do about the shitty paint job atm

So as you guys can see in a previous post i've scored some smaller inserts. they look way better but unfortunately the rubber was quite a bit faded. so i took some time to refurbish them:

    huge difference:

    and all together:

    next to the original insert:

next up it was time for the door inserts:

originally my car came with plastic inserts. and i've lost one during the build last year.

so a few months ago i picked these up from a friend

they where heavily oxidized so i couldn't polish them completely. so took a different route.

    sprayed them black:

    and only polished the edges:

you can't see shit on the pictures but it gives a cool vibe in real life tho..

last week i had time to work on the car and swapped the side inserts:

but i forgot to make pic from the result. i'll post one soon tho

So the Stance Works Dutch BBQ meet is coming up next weekend, and i figured i should finish my subwoofer set up already.

the case itself was pretty much done. only thing i did was reinforce a few places so the wood didn't shake to much. and drilled some holes for ventilation.

next up was finding out a way to attach the subwoofer without fucking up my nice wooden floor.
so i got some scrap metal my dad had lying around and went creative with it.

first of all, i'm in no means a fabricator so excuse the shitty look of what comes next.
i truly had no idea what i was doing, but it turned out good enough imo.

    got me a aluminium pipe:

squashed it on a work bench:

    made a few bends :

made it smaller with a grinder and drilled a big hole:

so i could attach them on the seatbelts.

    made another one:

some fresh paint so they won't be noticed behind the subwoofer:

installed the subwoofer and screwed it in place:

    the end result:

i'm really content with the looks of the trunk set up now. the quality of the bass is good enough for me. not as good as a normal subwoofer case but hey it's something, and this looks a thousand times better.

    i've ordered some small parts, they should arrive this week;

    - Hella fuelcap, since the old one didn't close properly anymore.
    - a small decal for the filler neck. it's miscellenous but i like details, so yeah..
    - new CL front spoiler since i destroyed my old one after a collision with a dead pidgeon. i might get a GTI spoiler in the future some time but i'm still not too sure on it since i don't want to make it a gti clone or something like that.
    - chrome inserts for the window rubbers. they are extremely faded so the new ones should really improve the exterior, but i know it's going to be a huge pain in the ass to replace them

    that's all folks!

thanks!, they're rm012 btw, not rs's. and yeah Venetian blinds are a love or **** thing i guess, i like them since they're kinda period correct. they do look better in person then on these two photo's i must admit.

i'd say do it, small amount of work but it instantly gives the car a cleaner appearance.
and yeah the painter is on a really busy schedule atm because of Wörthersee. he's probably going to start in a few weeks. i'll have you know that i decided not to go for a color matched scheme because i think it won't give enough contrast against the polished metal. So i pulled the trigger on a different silver colorcode that's, as long as the wheels come out great, going to be the new color for the entire car.

for now i'm gonna focus on the details and start saving up for new tyres.

looks really poor quality, i'm sorry. a while ago i made myself one too for my e34, with black bison leather and golden stiches, went pretty good for a first time.

also, english is def not my native language so sorry mane, btw i am also lurking for mk2's.

thanks mate, and yeah i'm not happy at all with that leather shift cover. like i said in one of the previous posts i want to make a new one with the left overs i've got from making the trunk panels. so we'll see when i get time to do that

so i've got a update. haven't done much to the car lately, mostly busy with school. still need to repair the damned handbrake for example. i did have some time to do some work hence this update.

    first of all....

last sunday i brought my wheels to the paintshop. i'm so fucking excited since i found a really nice color for them.

they should be ready around the end of may so i need to have patience.

while driving to the paintshop last sunday, i made a little de-tour first to another Dutch forum member (Vladi). saw his daily and the ol' shuttle. both in great shape.

well, this is what i picked up from him:

    ventian blinds

i was curious if they'd fit my rear window since mk1 have a really big one.

today i had to time to install and trim the edges for a correct length.

since i'm broke as fuck now because of the paint job for the wheels; i decided to do some cheap ass refurbishments on the car.

    refurbished the mirrors:

and painted the window wiper arms.

    overall result:

like i said; small stuff, but it's all worth it for the end result.

for now i've got my plans on fixing up the other side trims and door inlets. think i'll have some time this weekend.

    see yaaa

i feel ya, in my mind there's something wrong with 16 on mk1's. it's taking the rest out of proportions.
btw damn that's low with 16"
probably on air tho, and i don't wanna have air on this one.

so small update on the RM's. monday evening i brought my wheels to a guy that could fix the curb rash:

i also let him machine 4 mm off the mounting faces for a higher ET value. so i have a bigger chance in fitting the 8" in the back.

So now the rims are perfectly straight and damage free. the paintshop is going to re-assemble the wheels after paint, but charges extra for polishing. so i started that job before they're send off to the paintshop.

wheels wheren't cleaned for more than a week because i didn't had the time and motivation to clean them last time:

i took half of the bolts out on one side so i could polish it. placed them back in and did the other side:

still has some polish pasta on a few holes.

after polishing it, i waxxed them for an extra protection layer.

    result for now:

and one of the rear wheels:

still need to do the other two, but i dont have time for it atm.
next weekend i'll bring them to the painter. and might pick up something cool on the way back from another Dutch forum member on here

    that's all for now

    Update,

don't have time for an notch right now, so i just lowered it normally..

    it needed a wash again:

this weekend i had some time to work on the car.

swapped and old coolant housing on the cylinderhead. it was in dire need of replacement:

still need to do this one; but i fucked up and ordered the wrong part:

the window wipers had seen better days; so i've replaced these as well.

and now i was focusing on my wheels. i am completely done with the red faces. and the stretch. the wheels also have some curb rash so i decided to refurbish them. and ofcourse they needed to get off the car but this time i didn't wanna drive on the old 13" wheels again. so i borrowed my mate's C2's:

it's not really my cup of tea, but hey, it's better then the 13".

but somewhere i feel like i'm driving around like this:

anyway; yesterday i gave them a quick polish:

and picked up a few goodes from a mate:

    smaller inserts:

and aluminium door inserts, since my old ones are from plastic:

the rm's are going off to a place where they'll try to fix the curb rash. i'm gonna take a few mm's of the mounting faces so i've got a higher ET value. this is because i like the staggered look, but i know 185/45 is going to be to wide for the arches in the back with the current wheel specs. after that i'm going to give them a proper polish and they'll be send to a paintshop
