  • ~ Let's get wide ~ Casual Aussie E28 Build Let's get wide~

*Before I get started, I'm pretty sure I had a build thread however I cannot even begin to think of my Username etc*

!Also this is a side of the road build, as I don't have a garage til I move again!

    Hey Guys!
This is my very casual, budget build 1985 528i BMW, a little back story

I've owned the E28 for about 6 months, with minimal rust, no mechanical issues and for the total price of $600 with rego, couldn't give up the opportunity to buy it at the time, considering I just blew up my DA9 (long story, irrelevant)

After I bought it, I literally had so much information to read about them (coming from Nissan and Honda too something like this was different(no chance of going fast))

Pretty much realised exactly what I wanted to do, then changed my mind about a thousand times...

    Shitty phone pics

    The night I got it

    Moving onto the build.

*2 months after owning or so

It really started randomly when I was at a mates house just having a chat, seriously, out of no-where he got up with a grinder and suggested cutting springs

~ Front and Rear springs cut (first time ever using a grinder (funny...but I've had no need to use one before)
Pretty sure we cut 3 and a half in the rear and 2 and 3 quarters in front

After this it was time to clean up whatever I could on the body, it had a pretty nice dent in the passenger quarter, bonnet was dented (so much ****)

    ~ bog becomes my friend.
Really, after I had a panel beater try get it out, the only option was buy new panels, or bog it til it's straight....ish
    I bogged it.

    *beware the home job*
The next thing was the sound, I took it too a few exhaust shops, most of them refusing to do the work I wanted, a couple wanting way too much, and one guy booked me in without me knowing, so...

~ cut pipe exiting first muffler, and entering rear muffler...(rear muffler delete?)
Alright, so it's a home job, and I'm cheap, you'll all live, it sounds like a freaking speedway car in the morning after all
    -no regrets at this point

    No pics for this sorry

So, the interiors pretty disgusting, and it's still a work in progress, but...

S14 Front seats in perfect condition
~ weld e28 rails to modified s14 rails
They're comfy, they look amazing, $30 well spent, oh and I learnt to weld all of a month and a half ago.

    What's next?
Well, I'm currently waiting on a few things
    Weather to clear up...
Rubber for my wheels (update coming)
    M tech front seats
The ability to have the time to teach myself to fibreglass
Piping to do a headers back exhaust (love being able to weld)

    What's on order?
Coilovers in 2 weeks (let's get even lower, cause 65mm to the sump isn't good enough)
Tyres for my mags next week
    Paint

    *updates atleast weekly I hope!*

Bought these wheels today, brand new in boxes!
15x7's will make a good placeholder until the finances allow for 3 piece wheels
Don't judge, I realise they're not massive, but they will look good under the e28 imo

Good job man! I'm a big fan of wide bodies on older cars like these. there's just something so right with an old classic car with wiide arches and wide wheels! Good luck on the build and keep us posted!

                Update!
                Tyres have been fitted
The 2 brand new tyres had something wrong with the metal inside, and its caused a bubble on each, the shop said that they may be alright, or they'll just blow out, so need new tyres!

                Pictures coming

One of my best mates got the idea to convert the front end to s13 gear, this I agree with! So were waitin to work on that as it's been raining!

Ordered rear coil overs that a guy had on the cheap that I know!
                So they'll be here shortly

cause im doing an s13 conversion the fronts will wait til that's done

Now, the wide body is about to be started! There will be many pictures once I start, we've looked into a few options, so we'll try each of them!

                That's it guys!
Update once I start the wide

                  ~Update~
                  Nothing massive unfortunately
My little girl decided it'd be a good idea to make me spend cash for the Beamer on her eyes
She's awaiting an operation on her cleft pallet and now her eyes, plus found out they found an abnormal heart murmur so that's in the works of being organised as they predict a hole in her heart

However I've had the opportunity to get the old beast in primer, new wheels on, roof, hood and boot painted black

First time ever painting, I've realised the mistakes and plan on fixing them later on down the track

                  What's in the works?
Well, currently in the midst of preparing to move, aswell as start my new job, plus I get my license back on the 19th
So, the beamers on the back boards of everything, but I'm gradually figuring out time to get everything completed
Keep eyes on this guys, it'll get pretty hectic and fast

Cheers bud, still the only car I haven't been able to sell and I've had some pretty generous offers, defiantly something that'll be passed on through the family

Yeah, they say it's not something with many complications, but won't find out til she's older anyway
The doctors did say she shouldn't have a problem drifting when she's older

                            I'm digging these wheels actually...
They're really only place holders until the expenses loosen up so I can afford a new set

                            ~Small Update~
The missus decided last month that she'd buy me a treat because of spending all my car savings on my daughter and let me know that I've got an RB20DET waiting at a mates that she's paid for
So, a few mates are helping out with the fab work and were working towards dropping the motor into the old girl -boosted life?-

                              ~Update~
Started my new job on Thursday, I work 5 days a week 55 - 60 hours a week, so weekends is about all I get too myself
In saying this, I now have enough $$ to keep going on with the project
I'm purchasing a 4.1 Diff from an e30 on Tuesday, with an expected swap by Sunday (not tomorrow, the one a after)
Now, Tuesday week is when everything gets real!
I'm getting the rb20 box, and finding out where I can get custom mounts from (rb20 swap? damn right!)
                              what's happening too my stance?
well...I can't buy wheels until I buy my partners dads motorbike (I need a way to get too work whilst the beamers off road)
so...the actual stance and wide body won't happen for atleast a month and a half (pretty short)
but, the beamer should be done within 3 months, and I mean completely done, as long as I can find all the interior parts I'm looking for...

                              I need your help though
I'm pretty keen on purchasing Ketskin KT1's, but, does anyone else have other suggestions? not really wanting to go spending more then 1500 on wheels just yet, as I decided to save for a 180sx while I'm on my p's (Australia Sucks...no engineerd car can be driven)
