I see all your updates, and love all of them!
But you're on StanceWorks, and your car is not a BMW E30 or something like that, so nobody participates here. Sad, but true.
Greetings from Portugal, and keep up with the good work

Yeah I do not know what they were thinking either, maybe some leftover hubs from the old days, maybe the same Polo platform, I dont know.
Either way it is better for me, more options out there, for sure. Only thing is that i could change wheels among my other two cars, but oh well.
Cheers

But I'm just as guilty as everyone else because I read but hardly ever post.
I really love your car though and read it every time there's an update
But I try to change that
Cheers, and thanks

So today I had a day off, from work, and thought, why not.
Why not upgrade my exhaust system I mean. LoL.
Put the car on the ramp
So the OEM A1 1.6 TDi system, has no middle resonator as you can see.
At first I was to change only the backbox, but then, I thought, F*ck it, I will go cat-back exhaust. OEM piping size is about 50mm (about 2inch).
I thought we should go 63mm (2,5inch) but then I said again, F*ck it, let's go 76mm (3inch), cause who knows what engine this chassis might end up carrying in the future, LoL.
So then, that was decided, transition from OEM one to the new one, under the driver's seat, and then, in the future, do the front section as well.
While we cut the piping there, I thought, let's do a sound test just for fun.
And then, was the time I lost my smile, LoL.
I mean, seriously, ZERO DIFFERENCE, whatsoever, from oem condition.
Yeah, no sound gains if you dont remove the front section I guess. I mean I am new to TDi world, but seriously, WTF ?
Nevermind I thought, I would continue with the fabrication of the exhaust, make it proper, and look nice, and in the future, exhaust will be completed sometime I guess.
First we had to make the transition from one to another
With some love, it happened, and then tig-welded
I would also use one v-band connection to remove the backbox when and if needed for cleaning etc etc
My Russian welder took in charge
Fittings made
Backbox almost ready
V-Band will go there nicely
Placement on car
In situ
Artsy shot
This was while test-fitting the pipes
And some final shots with everything in place
First from underneath
And then from the back
I love how it came out, and it is exactly what I was going for
Hope you liked it too
Cheers everyone
Mike

To be honest, I did think about it, a quick youtube research though on straight pipes on the 1,6TDi soon made me change my mind. It does not sound good by any means. The displacement surely does not help it sound good, does it. However, I dont like the idea of the dpf up front, and I do want to do something about it, sooner or later. Again, I have not found something bolt-on so custom will be the way again.
So much for that warrantly of the new car, LoL

Love the details you do on your builds, would like to see it lower, but that's my taste, not yours. Cheers!e28 build thread
