  • A Derpy Kei Van (Honda Acty)

I've always loved kei cars, but I never knew how much until I picked up a honda beat this summer. earlier last year I had found a Honda Acty van for sale in Saskatchewan, and tried to convince a friend of mine who lives there to buy it because it looked like an awesome little car. He never ended up getting it or looking at it and I kinda forgot it even existed. One day I happened to see that it was still listed and decided that it would be a really cool project, but it was still a 7 hour drive away.

Both me and my friends decided it was probably a bad idea, a waste of money and a pretty horrible vehicle to own....

And just like that I decided to head out and pick it up

shortly after ariving we picked it up.

Once we had purchased it we realized the van was in a lot worse shape then we were expecting it to be, so we ended up putting it on a Uhaul trailer and towing it back to Calgary.

and heres a quick size comparison

Just like the Honda beat the van runs a mid engine, 656cc, inline 3 motor. It is however carbureted and attached to a 4wd system. it makes somewhere around 37hp.

As for plans: at the moment it needs a major tune up (timing is off, and probably a few other small things), fixing things like the sliding doors that don't line up perfect, tinting back windows, put in a bitchin sound system.

Other then that im not sure if I should lower it or lift it. In the end I'd like to make it into a fun little camping/party rig/roadtrip car.

I'll get better/more pics later on, this is however similar to mine if you want to see what the interior looks like http://www.minitruckcanada.com/class...3-2030867.html

And here's some examples of why its so damn difficult to decide what to do with the suspension.... they look damn cool either way!

anyways thanks for looking guys! till next time

slam it. Or do something to make it more powerful to turn 4x4 tires. Both options are cool.

this thing is sweet! im gonna go against the grain and say lift it but keep it underpowered for the extra challenge.

The best part of this is your expression in that photo. My vote is for on the floor with widened steels.

            Update time!

Finally have this damn thing registered and on the streets. had to do major overhaul on it which is a bit of a pain on this thing because.......

the motor is horendous to get at and so cramped

It turned into quite the nightmare

that bottom hole, with the bolt hole on either side is where the dipstick attatches.. you literally check the oil level by reaching into the wheel well and unscrewing the dipstick

luckily there was an enlish manual. unluckily I needed waaaaaaaay more parts then I ordered with the manual.

In the end, for maintenance I replaced:
-timing belt + tensioner and idler pulley
            -water pump
            -spark plugs
            -distrubutor cap and rotor
            -spark plug and iginiton wire
            -thermo valve
            -oil pressure sensor
            -several vaccuum lines
            -airbox cover
            -muffler
-half of the van's constant velocity joints
            -driveshaft boot
            -valvecover gasket
            -fuel filter
and more that I'm likely forgetting just to get it running right and road worthy

add to that the joys of troubleshooting and troubleshooting annnndddd troubleshooting.

for the driveshaft boot I had to improvise and use a cv joint boot, simply can't get a new boot for the damn thing

decided to add some flair and paint the valvecover CAT yellow for shitz and giggles

Also, decided to replace the interior plastics and door cards as they were in rough shape, before:

unfortunatley I forgot to get pics with the new cards in, but here's them before installing

Also decided the mirrors it had were to boring

So I switched to the "California style" mirrors

Stared quite a sticker collection on the back window

and removed the terrible vinyl graphics off the side

took the Acty in for its out of province inspection and it passed on its first run through

found out I can literally fuel the van up without opening the door

and upgraded the headlights to an LED system

luckily it all fit within the teeeeeny headlight buckets, including a ballast per each light

Got lucky and managed to snag a set of Work Equip 03's in need of repair for dirt cheap

And had to test fit them,

and as luck would have it, they just barely clear the sliding door when opened

currently waiting on the wheel shop to repair the damaged wheel.

            till next time!

This is awesome! I've always wanted a little kei van. How roomy is the driver's area?

If the engine ever goes, throw in an XR650 engine. Pretty much double the power lol.
