  • German built Ford, mk1 Fiesta

So I've got this friend, Amy, she knows nothing about cars and bought this "cute" (ugly) 1980 ford fiesta. It was Fords answer to the vw rabbit. A cheap fwd economy car that they could sell worldwide. All US market cars were produced in Germany and were only here from 78-80. I drove the thing and it was a BLAST. At only around 1700lbs its a freaking go-kart, a go-kart that I wouldn't be caught dead in.

That was until Amy sent me this:

$400 and it runs!!!! How could I not buy this little yellow lemon? DUH
First up, fix brakes order brake master cylinder. Checked rockauto.com and found out all the parts for this car in america are out of production and what is left is nos selling for below wholesale. Master cylinder, $17.78; carb rebuilt kit, $8.21; accessory belt, $4.04; motorcraft oil filter, $1.11 ill take 6, you get the point.

brake master cylinder, bleed brakes, fix oil leaks, oil change, valve adjustment, rebuild carb, remove emissions crap, retune, thermostat, coolant flush, plugs, wires, cap, rotor,
    air/fuel filter.

Test drive to Amy's too see how my turd stacks against hers.

Looks like it has been lowered already...

Turns out the previous owner was a fanatic and used to build them into race cars, I found a notebook with every fuel fill up from 1981-1998...

Fast forward a week or two and I buy these for $100

and then I mount up these 155/55r14 (stock 155r12 pictured)

    Stock:

Sick poke, needs a little rolling:

And the obligatory gas station shots:

Not bad, so far $400 car, $225 New tires mounted, $100 wheels and $100 in parts brings us too $825 plus probably 50$ in brake clean, brake fluid, oil and other little parts store buys. Next up is getting it lower and rolling the fenders just a little. Future: paint (god its ugly) and more power, I'm thinking motorcycle engine.

Didn't know they were ever sold in USA. Looks weird with those round healights and big bumpers.

Oh, and they were more of an answer to Polo than Golf/Rabbit

Like it a lot even in that flashy colour
But the rims are to big imo, something smaler and deeper would be perfect

PO has some 13'' rs xr2 wheels and xr2 flare kit I might get.

The bumpers have actually been shortened and inch or two over stock by the PO. I'm thinking of just removing them completely and welding up the holes.

This was one of the PO other fiestas

Just a small correction FYI: The Fiesta was not meant to compete with the Rabbit / Golf but even smaller cars like the VW Polo, Renault 5 and Fiat 127.

These are some cool cars! There's a few ridiculous builds of these over in the UK. Also, my dad had two of these back in the 80ies. His were the XR2 model which had a 1.6l 84hp engine, quickest Fiesta you could get back in the day.

I'd love to see this thing on some 8x13s actually!

I love the spoiler, not really feeling the flares though, i think ill stick with rolling my fenders.

More photos comparing the car to stock, i could almost live with the bumpers sucked up so close to the body, stock is horrid though:

Even though my new wheels (155/55r14) are 1'' diameter smaller than the stock (155r12) tires because of the stiffer side wall they raise the car up!

ummm YES. this is a sick ride, by the way. I like the look of the round headlights, nicer than the standard rectangular ones imo!
