  • Built by hand... is that a good thing?

Hello and welcome to my build thread. I shall start with a brief introduction. My name is Stafford but friends call me Dirty Mike, against my will. This is my rather slow/ambitious build thread. I work as a diesel tech on small commercial vans/trucks. I'm not new to S|W but felt a fresh start would be good for this build. Now onto pictures.

As you can see I was the proud owner of a 2005 rx8, purchased off a friend with the intention of an engine rebuild etc.

I just enjoyed the car as a weekend warrior for a while, then came the hot start issues and a lumpy idle. This is associated with a loss of compression due to the rotor tips wearing. I thought now is time to pull the motor to stop any further damage. This will hopefully allow me to reuse the housings and plates.

P.s sorry about the instagram filters and boring refrance pics.

Saw a nice tubular stainless mani cheap on ebay so had to be bought!

now that purrdy 13b is ready to be pulled apart... i know im a picture whore.

unfortunately no air gun, fire or breaker bar would release that pesky front pulley bolt! So out came the big 1500nm gun! Perks of having plant fitters about!

Now the porting begins after all plates and rotors checked for wear and clearances.

This was all rather daunting as no porting templates are available for the 4-port low power models (mine). This leaves us up to date. I shall update with any slow progress i make. Hopefully i can build up a bit of motivation from the forum!

              You'll need a bigger grinder.

So ive been a bit slow as ive had to save up my money for parts. The struggle is real.

Anyway my lightweight flywheel and hydraulic handbrake arrived the other day. Rebuild kit and 95psi oil bypass switch are now on order!

Got myself some reading material and some private time. Nothing more relaxing than a book on engine components and a poo.

A guy in the uk makes and sells them. Has a 3k twill carbon fibre handle (whatever that is, looks sick though) and a wilwood cylinder. I can pm you his number if you like?

Small update, I have had the rebuild kit and oil pressure switch. Ill get a better picture of individual parts during the rebuild. Fir now here is what £1000 worth of seals, bearings and o-rings looks like.
