  • Dom's 1990 Mini

Right new to the stanceworks forum but I am on mini forums. This is my attempt at stancing a classic mini and turning it into a retro head turner. My main plan for this is to turn it into a stanced, fast-road mini that can look good and go good too!

This has been my first car and a slow build to start off with due to not much money. Going to be a bit pic heavy to start with to bring you all up to speed but I will try to upload as many pictures as possible when do more to it.

Any feedback and help is welcomed as I am always looking at how to take this project that bit further.

    This when it all started:

Then I started to get my hands on it and decided to update the interior and give myself a bit more comfort:

Then the ICE came in (8 speakers - 1000w - all subtle):

Then it was time for some new rubber and to start to get it low and wide:

Then time for a freshen up on the paint (never was keen on the original pain style):

And some small touches to the interior to freshen it up:

This is how it was sitting and I knew the offset was completely wrong on the wheels:

So I tried some 19mm spacers (widest you can go on the spaced drums on the mini):

It was looking a bit better so I thought it was time to drop it and see how it looked then (low n slow!):

I still didn't like the stance so decided some new wheels were in order so I bought these custom babies!:

Eventually I got it sitting much better and this is it how it sits now, I still want to go lower at the back and will but I need to tub the rear arches. I will also be getting some camber brackets in the future to really help give this the perfect stance!:

Look out for updates soon people! Got a new racing exhaust going on over weekend to give it some more ground clearance and a bit more power. Got big plans next year for tubbing the rear to go lower, adding some camber and a race-spec n/a engine.

Love to hear what you lot have to say!

Fantastic, the newest set of wheels really look great.

Am I seeing things or is this a lot of positive camber?

Loving this! Nicer steering wheel would do wonders though, imo.

Yeah there is some positive camber which is a great excuse to give it a bit of negative! And the steering wheel is only a £30 placeholder till I see something I like. Cheers for the feedback though people!

Right people bit of an update with the wheels on and looking fine (keep forgetting to update this thread!):

Fitted a race spec mini exhaust so that it tucks up into the exhaust tunnel so I can have some more lows:

I also did some minor tweaks to the styling, painting the rear lights red to make the rear more smooth. Would have loved to have taken pictures of that as it was a right laugh spraying them in -2 degrees the night before a show:

And I took the chrome strip off the roof to keep the whole body more uniform and make the car look smoother altogether:

Next plans are to tub the rear arches so I can lower it further and get the the rear arches sitting as close to the rim as possible as well as add some camber to the front and rear. I am also thinking up some plans for the engine and got some stuff in the pipeline so stay tuned. Not many more drastic changes now, just subtle styling bits!!!

Bit of an update, not much has happened recently due to being messed around by body shops for the tubbing and having to re do the ignition system and fuel system after breaking down on the way to a show!

That aside when I was at the show in January I got approached by the editor of Mini Magazine and long story short I got a full 6-page feature and front cover!!!!

The only further mods I have done to my mini since my last post is re-trimming my dash in suede to tie it in with the interior colour scheme of black and creme.

                    Anyway here are some pictures:

And the Mini Magazine photos (all taken by Matt Woods):
