Bear with me please...
I am going to try and maintain a build thread on here.
I am setting up my Cabriolet to run in NASA GTS1/2 road racing events. I have played around with it this year and enjoyed it quite a bit... but its time to park it and hunker down and get this thing racecar modded. haha
Started out as a 1988 VW cabriolet, original white paint white top RED interior automatic.
So far, I've got the single round conversion done, automatic to manual trans conversion done, cylinder head is redone with ABA valvetrain and a TT .272 cam, TT header and exhaust.
I am putting a rollcage in it , per NASA rules for convertibles. It started out as an Autopower drop in cage for mk1 rabbits. They dont currently make one for cabbys, so I had to do quite a bit of modifying to get it to work. Still not finished but its close.
I installed Konig Sportline racing seats, which came on mk4 rails but i just modified the rails to fit mk1 since theyre pretty close anyway.
Put the car on raceland coilovers for now, until i can get something better.
Wheels are 15x9 widened/ rebarreled corrado steelies... You dont even want to know how much money i have in these damn wheels...
Also installed a GooseHead Island beer tap for a shifter, which is going to be gone due to form over function problems haha
Plans for this winter are :
finish the cage
VR6 swap or TDI swap
repaint inside and out, and shave engine bay
get a rear diffuser fabbed up and installed
Berg Cup flares
Sheet aluminum dash and door panels
Fuel cell and battery relocation
Remove glass except door windows and windshield
Convert door glass to lexan
get a quick release steering wheel setup
battery shut off switch mounted in the rear
get 5 point harnesses mounted
Build and independent rear trailing arm so each rear wheel moves independently
Corrado 4 wheel disc brake swap
Get the widened steelies sold and get 15x10 (rear) and 15x9 (front) work emotions or SSR professor SP1's
And last but not least, A DRIVER MOD haha
