  • Tom's MKII Jetta. (First Timer)

Heres a picture of how I got Geoff. (she looks good in pictures far away)

    Story About G-Dogg

I bought Geoff at the End of June as a late birthday present to myself after working through the month over in Europe (I drive touring bands around Mainland / England). I paid £1200 as the car stood (Wheels, Coilovers, Modifications and a big box of spare parts) I've wanted a Jetta for a few years now and I'd been looking for a while for the right colour. Despite paying a bit more than I wanted too I was happy to take the car. He wasn't the best looked after car but It didn't bother me because I knew I'd be making him a working project turning him into a Show Car (Hopefully)

It took me a while to get started on the car but I've Started now and I'm trying to update with pictures as much as possible. A lot of the work will be done either on my Street or at the guy who does my Van Mechanics (Engine wise) As I don't have a workable garage or a lot of money, Or anywhere I can do some work!

    Specs
    1.8 8V GTI.
180k Miles. (Shell) and Not sure 100% on the Engine itself as it was a swap.
    PAS Removed.
    Fast Road Cam
    Port And Polished Head
    Lowered on Coilovers.

    Problems.
Fan wasn't connected due to a different fan installed, Fan belt was squeaky.
    All round Wings rotten,
Carbs running to rich. Constantly smelling Fumes.
    Not very well looked after.
Radiator Fan not connected (always making sure the car isn't overheating)
    Bits of rust everywhere.

    Plans

I want to make it a Show Car, so here's my plans

    Full 4 Way V2 Airlift System - Installed 02/11/2014
Purchase / Fit Mk2 Golf G60 Wings - Bought, Rubbed back, Fillered and Installed - October 14.
Buy Items Needed for Boot Build. - 04/11/2014
Buy Silly toy to Connect to Air-line and make noise - Ordered 01/11/2014
Remove Engine, Rebuild and Paint Gloss Black - ????
Respray - Saving up at the minute for this - TBC

I started to dig deeper into finding out what was wrong, And being static means you find out the hard way. I came up a driveway and did this to my arch. As you can see, the previous owner decided to wood screw all the plastics on. NO more!

About a week ago I came back from a week away at work to find someone had smashed into the side of the car on my street as it was parked up

Luckily enough I had purchased my G60 Wings, (Ebay £60 Bargain!) This is currently what I've done to them. I'm a first timer on doing a lot with a car and I'm really enjoying it!

So it was out with the old. In with the New(ish)

(I didn't realise how hard it was to do this without taking the bumper off)

I ended up working until around 5:30PM on these so It was pretty dark by the time I had done!

    Wing 1 -
Wing 2 - (Image keeps rotating when upload) -

    Fitment is Gooooooood

Here's how it looked all together!

That's all the update I have for now.

    This week I have.

This big hole being Welded on my Strut (I cried when I found this)

Bags being Fitted (Sunday) - I bought the Full V2 3/8 Line Airlift Kit.
Rear Beam fitted (GTI Disc Conversion)

I'm hopefully moving onto the engine after this and getting the rear wings welded on, and hopefully the boot welded back to a good condition (lots of rust but that will be welded and a smooth boot.

If anyone ever fancies helping a newbie out, advice, ways around things easier. I'm a message away.

    Thanks!

Not Much progress achieved the past couple of days.

Had to put her back together / Raise her for her welding treatment she's having tomorrow.

Found the usual horrible rot on the Fuel Tank holder. Completely through too.

Here's a couple pictures of her

Raised her like 15mm. Surprisingly easy as I thought the Coilovers would be siezed. Seems not!

This is with the Jetta front on (I much prefer the Golf front end) Ignore the bumper holders

        Update!

Today was a big day. Fitting Air!

Me and a Friend Fitted the V2 today. Took 7 Hours from start to finish (He's never fitted air as his was fitted by the company but it was pretty Simple)

Then It got exciting. We fitted the bags and calibrated

Here's how she sits (Aired out front lifted back)

I need to get a notch done to make it lower, But For now I'm happy that I can drive like an old man and not scrape / bump / sump smash

        Next on the list.

        Wings Primered.
Rear Wings cut out and replacements fitted
Engine Out for a clean and spray (Gloss Black)
        Boot Build.

I'll probably start with the boot build tomorrow, Going for a false floor with just the compressor showing and possibly putting a hole for the second Compressor I'm going to get in a few months.

I still need to go over a few things but I'm going to have a sit down and go into things I need to have done.

Really easy fit mate. The Loom is plug and Play. The setup is pretty easy too. If we weren't faffing about with little bits we would've done it a lot faster. But we messed about and had some breaks.

Thinking copper lines and going thicker too so I have silly up and down speed!

Today is finish off the boot build day! I've done the main bit of the floor.

Doing the sides. going to have a little bit of perspex each side with some lights in it to show the Compressors (buying a 2nd Compressor real soon but I need more moneys!)

Should be fun. It's also making my car even warmer when the heatings on because I've got the boot covered up and theres less for the cold air to come through!

Managed to only do one side today. Had my back tattooed and everytime I sweated it stung like hell.

What I ordered today - 2 A4 Perspex sheets. they will sit at the height of the compressors or a little bit above and have some LED around them to make the compressors light up. Some new interior bulbs (white to make it look better)

Struggling on deciding if I should copper line my Air specially on the rear as it will look smarter.

Finished the Boot Build wood side of things today!

Cut the back too short but it fits with a little gap hidden between the seats and the back wood.

Accidental but means I could put an Amp / Battery / Washer bottle in the gap

                        Heres the build / Gap.

I also orded some Flip Tie-Rod Kit parts.

And something to stop my compressor from sounding like a drill on my boot. (We riveted the compressor to the actual floor of the boot. but I've ordered something to put before the compressor.

Noise free Compressor (Read into these and someone said it's pretty much silent now they've fitted them)

Lay Frame Kit (Need to notch but when I build up from the bottom This will help)

Waiting for carpet to arrive is boring

Heres the Battery hidden compartment, I won't be having rears in so I'll just have another false floor with copper rear lines and other things.

                        Best of all decision! WHEEEEEEELZ

I've decided on Image BBM's. 3 Piece Cast 16 x 9 all round. It's gonna be fun getting them to fit

I'm thinking chocolate / dark brown on the car for colour now. But I'm not 100%! I need help!

I want to say the color is "Root Beer Flake" but I honestly can't remember for the life of me. Always loved the color though. I, personally, would do a little bit less flake for a more subtle look. But yeah here it is. Dark brown + flake is the way to go
