  • My TL Build: A Dedication to Friendship

For those of you who do not like introductory anecdotes, feel free to proceed downward where the pictures reside.

First, let me start by saying I've been a member of these forums for quite a while, but I've never made any real contribution to the community: sold a pair of wheels once and tried to sell my car. In my 23 years I have owned 5 vehicles: a 2001 Chevy Cavalier (I still own it), 2006 Subaru WRX (totaled), 2004 VW Jetta GLI VR6 (sold), and a 2004 BMW 545i (sold).

Every one of those cars I loved immensely, but I also grew to loathe each one as well. Shortcuts along the way and a college budget dearly hindered the quality of work put into each vehicle. I learned a lot along the way; most importantly, I am no mechanic, nor will I ever be.

There are some of you out there who will praise me for my efforts, others who will mock me, and some who simply just want to see pictures. I understand the aura surrounding 'hand crafted', but to some, it will never be a reality: I am one of those people. My skillset and free time will not allow it. Please do not get me wrong, I understand concepts and do as much as I can myself, but years have taught me that bigger tasks need be for the professionals, or, in this case, my professional friends. They can be quite the luxury. Years have also taught me, although not many of them for those who might try to degrade my age, that those who have no appreciation for something other than what they deem 'respectable' normally are not the most intelligent.

My point, parts of this car will be built by me, but a lot of it will also be built by other people’s hands: other people’s hands that just happen to be some of my closest friends, which is what it’s all about, right? The people we meet are what make this great; the cars are simply what bring us together. Hopefully you will enjoy this car as much as I do, I think it's my favorite one yet.

    Car purchased 8/9/2014:
2005 Acura TL, 6-speed manual with NAV. 74,XXX miles. Took me 3 months to find the one I wanted. Here is a picture in stock form (I forgot to take one the day I bought it).

    Parts currently acquired:
    BC Racing Coilovers
    07-08 Stock Taillights
    All-Weather Trunk Mat
Borbet style 95s 19x9 and 19x10 (from the 545i, temporary)
    Adapters for Style 95s

You're on the right track for sure. I give you credit for being humble in your capabilities and knowing your limitations. That said, don't be afraid to go a little beyond your comfort zone and try to learn what you can.

Looking forward to your progress, I love this generation of TL.

So, it's been about a month, haven't done shit to the car. I've been very busy, also very lazy, and wasted a lot of my money on other things. Plus, the weather change is a hinder to my motivation since there is nothing to look forward to. BUT, I did attend H20i, and I have some lovely pictures to share. My favorite is the e34 M5; god I love that car. Also, raised the rears up a little bit because I haven't bought rear camber adjustments so the car is extremely squirrely for some reason. I did pay for an alignment, but to no avail, car is still crooked. Front passenger CV boot tore as well, so I just bought a whole new axle. Still have to put that on though. Enjoy the pictures.

                    So many threads left....

Like I said, only a little raise.

Thanks. It took me forever to find a low mileage one that was well taken care of. When they do pop up, they go extremely fast, so I recommend not hesitating too much if you ever find the right one. Good luck!
