  • '88 Nissan Bluebird Boso - UK

Started getting into modifying cars and jap motors the correct way by buying a Eunos. Unfortunately the mx5 bug caught on in Aberdeen and they became more common. The MOT was coming up and I wanted a change so decided to take on a boso project. I've always loved Bosozoku and Zokusha style cars but finding a base car in Scotland is an absolute nightmare.

    Quick mx5 history...

    I polished this turd:

    Turned it into this:

Then re-kitted it out for some track work :

Long story short I ended up with this 1988 Nissan Bluebird LS which has the CA16. Carbed, my favourite seeing as I work on bikes . It is pretty much spotless with electric everything. The underside looks newer than cars less than half its age! It will be getting utterly abused by the boso stick!

It has a mucho silly boso exhaust:

And i've bought these 70s slotmags which arent as wide as the current donk pimp spec wheels but are definitely winning on the offside front

So for now i've done a bit of maintenance, change some oils, replaced some belts and plugs and added my window sticker and import plate. I'll be blasting the wheels at work and polishing them this week hopefully in time for tyres on saturday and we'll see how far that goes. Spring choppage will also be in the pipeline... then converting to golf mk2 coilovers once I decide its worth the money.

Let me know what you think. Im mainly glad its a bit different and unusual so should hopefully turn heads when its a bit silly and low

Blasted the slags at work then painted them in my expert precision spraybooth AKA the shed. For being 40 odd years old they came out all right! Then bought the correct nuts and some new tyres for them and stuck them on today. And for the record... yes I will be battering it with the lowering stick soon enough

Could not have hoped for better fitting wheels. Front calliper brackets had to be persuaded with a grinder for clearance but I tarted them up with some black paint I found in my tool box so they dont look so tatty. MK2 golf coilovers are next on my shopping list (only putting them off as the rears need to be ground out then the coilovers welded in) aswell as a splitter from a MK1 golf as a trap

Appreciate everyones comments. Comforted in the fact that its not just me that likes it!

Well I had a shift extender sitting around from the mazda, and figured if I didnt try it on then I wouldnt be much of a DIYer. Had to use a pipe wrench to get the old knob off. Glued onto the threads! So a gearknob I found in a drawer was recruited and takes pride and place atop my gear stick tower. Smoother shifting and makes a surprisingly good arm rest in 4th.

Last night I was pretty bored so figured I better make something for the car. Do a lot of vinyl wrapping for mates so I have heaps of black in tubes lying around. Of course that meant it was the perfect opportunity to try out a zokusha police spec whale tail on the bonnet

              Trying out for size:

On (also gave it some angry eyes just because) :

Yes! I love it. So I'll get some more vinyl and carry on. I know the paint isnt white so it isn't quite kosher but I'm not too fussed. I know its not low yet and I apologise, I am just keeping myself occupied until the time comes!

Its only a monster truck at the front! Back shocks are stuffed. Had 3 people in the back the other day and every bump I went over my tyres decided to roll the arches for me haha.

Next on the wrap list will be the bottom half of each side of the car under the bump strips. Then eventually every other non black bit on the bottom half. Thats what the jap police cars are like and they look ace!

So while trawling ebay for Bluebird goodies I saw someone selling an original 80s nissan roof rack. Won it for £5.50... thats like, $9, incase you arent from the kingdom.

It doesnt do anything... maybe i'll say its there to hold the roof on. I have nothing to put on it I just think it looks the balls. Still looking for loads of japanese car club stickers to cover my rear window with. Oh and suspension, yeah those things.

Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with them for me!

Anyway, car has been dead for 2 weeks after an incident which involved me pulling teeth off the crank timing pulley trying to change a seal that didnt even need to be changed. Long story short, I got the bits, I put it back together and I fixed it and it now has a bit more power (it needed this) after I fixed the ignition timing with a magic flashy gun of witchcraft

Anyway, I was bored waiting for bits and seeing as my arches were toast I painted them black. Makes the car look a bit wider and stops the tin worm. Did the rears to match but you get the idea.

My mate Joel also kindly donated this splitter. It doesnt fit, but i'll make it fit once its low so I know where and how to mount it! It does look fairly epic though.
