  • Michelle: A reintroduction

It has been nearly a year since I picked up Michelle and nearly 10 years since my last e28. I'm proud to say that I'm back to owning my favorite car, ever. She's been up on jackstands for 9 months and shes almost ready to be back on the road. First, a recap.

I got this glorious bastard of a car when I was the tender age of 17. An $800 1985 535i with a nearly brand new paint job and wiring by an accomplished arsonist. Although it looked nice, it had Walter White level cancer and serious case of mange underneath.

But seriously, this thing was a rat condominium and I think the previous owner was completely or legally blind (I suppose the latter allowed him to drive this pile).

However, I loved Roxanne and proceeded to hoon it into the ground. After breaking 3 rockers and finding the motor to be very hurt, My father and I decided to fit a 745i system to this motor and rebuild it. I had the fastest car in High School by far and proceeded to race anything and everything in my path. My worst speeding ticket to date happened with Roxanne (112 in a 55) as well as many fun and interesting female encounters. And then I broke 2 more motors because I never really invested in engine management. ops:

That car blew the second motor I parted it out and it went to the crusher. Her name was Roxanne and she was great.
    Bye bye.

Fast forward many projects (Stroker E30, Rear Mount Turbo E30 M52, LS1 E12, Turbo Ford 302 powered Volvo 740 Wagon, etc) and 8 years later and I was longing for my old girl. Back now in the NJ area and having a good gig, I decided it was time to relive my past. Some of you may have seen my journey to pick up Michelle (the sexier, younger cousin of my first e28). Here's some golden memories.

And now, after replacing every suspension bushing with poly, converting to M1.3, rebuilding the shifter, converting to BC coilovers, getting e34 540 brakes, new DS, new bolts, new Euro manual sport seats...it's almost on the ground. Just testing rear ride height the other day.

I am literally waiting for my front coils to be welded and then...driving. Finally.

    Soon....

    A bunch happened.

Sitting on the ground for the first time since January this year. Feels pretty good. Will bleed the brakes and get it outside for some real pictures this weekend.

The BCs are really good quality for the price paid. I can't say much about performance as I haven't driven it yet, but I think they will work great being they are custom valved for my spring rates. If you are interested, Sean at Precision Sport Industries worked with me to get mine setup. With swift springs they were $1374 shipped.

First drive: Mixed success. Car drives great and feels great. My valvecover turned out awesome.Pulls nice and strong. Clutch and shifter feels mint. Brakes worked fantastic...until I found out that the drivers rear caliper (reman) leaks at the connection and is generally not actuating properly. Waiting on a new one. So its not moving for now.
