Hello world, Tyler here, I am what you would consider a stance noob.
I'm from north county in San Diego, Ca, I'm just a kid and I dont have much money.
And I'm pretty new to the whole stance thing.

I havent done anything cool to my car yet, but thats because my fall semester starts tomorrow and its robbed me of my money... (that and buying this car didnt help).

I used to cruise around in my dad's scion xb (which I nicknamed Marilyn due to the Marilyn Monroe sticker he put on the hatch years ago)

About mid July I picked up this beast [read problem] of a car

The 1999 Subaru Forester S was a good deal when I bought it (at least I thought it was)

and then in turned into a real nightmare.

I made a rookie mistake and didnt do a thorough check of everything before I bought it (and the price I paid I am ashamed to share).

First order of business was a wash and cleaned interior.
Now im no detective, but I think someone got murdered inside my car

(Excuse the orientation and iphone pics)

Then new brakes, done real easy,
but I found a torn cv and grease all over everything

After a couple hours and no luck with a new boot, I caved and bought a new axle for real cheap, and it went in much easier than I anticipated. (minus the roll pin, I had to use the old one because i ruined the new one)

And the latest problem is oil leaking everywhere... The other day on my way to work I noticed smoke pouring out from the hood... Thus a search under the car once I made it home revealed this.

Shotty work by the previous owners prefferred mechanic

    And the worst part
    oil 2 photo IMG_1673_zps442c74f3.jpg

Excuse the blurry picture, its the only one i have of the exhaust manifold.
Oil over every damn part of the engine bay.

So far a thorough degrease and wash of the engine bay has solved the burning oil problem, but I have no clue where its coming from and its holding me back from doing anything actually cool to this car. (like lowering it of course)

Im still undecided on the name, but I have two in mind, probably will share when I decide... Otherwise the turtle is my new daily driver and will be future project.

Peace out and thanks for reading.

I also own a 99 Forester as the family buggy. You might want to check the head gasket. Not a small job because of the boxer configuration, but you can definitely do it yourself with the right tools.

    ...and for reference...

Since im broke and like small projects I bought some fabric today to recover the door cards, and most likely pillars too.

More than likely you will either love this pattern or dislike it, I love it so whatever, dont care.

Started like this (once it was out of the car and taking it out was super easy, 4 screws and a few clips that popped out super easily)

      Ended up like this.

The whole process of glueing and cutting was a real pain in the ass, let alone using screws and washers to hold the plastic panels on after i removed them because of the plastic welding instead of screws.

Also, foresters of that year dont have a separate part where the fabric is so its one solid piece, that was a bitch to glue onto, but it turned out ok.

New fabric looks 10x better IMO, Keep it up.
