  • Tatty, Rusty, Cheap - Renault 5 Project

Finally registered so I thought I'd post where I am so far

    I Started out with this:

Then after a few weeks of tweaks here and there I was at this stage:

It remained like that for a few weeks though I started to get a little bored and made more changes:

And most recently I made it to the NSRA Supernationals show

Critique definitely welcome, I know it's far from perfect and that I've got a lot more to do and it's definitely not something for everyone

      Rusty fender:
      Everything else:

Would love to see it a touch lower in the front. I have to admit, I kind of liked the oil cooler up front.

I agree about the fender and how it would look cleaner if it wasn't like that but the whole car in general is far from pristine so I guess I just went with it. The oil cooler is temporarily off (wanted to trial fit it on my '76 Escort) but I'll soon it put it back on I'm sure. And yeah it definitely could be lower in the front, that's on the list of things to do, thanks for your input

It's looking sick! Man I like the color of those wheels, keep it black?

                Like that rusty fender doe.

I've got a real soft spot for Renault 5's. You can go weeks without seeing one on the road as well.
It pleases me to see one on here. Thank you

Thanks, this was a dilemma for me because I did the fender before the wheels, and when I saw it I just thought I would do the wheels too since if I was changing that I may as well change a bunch of stuff (I like to change it up every once in a while)

I think I'm actually going to repaint the wheels today the same way they are, but go further in with the silver to highlight how wide they are (they're banded steels but I hadn't painted all the way into the dish).

Not sure on the number plate either since at the moment it has the square-ish one on but I still have the original that fits in the recess like in the very first picture

                          cool build..

imho, all car in white (no rusty fender), no plastic pieces around front windows (not sure the name), black side door trims ON, and some split wheels with gold centers

Haha yeah the wind deflectors... I like your idea though I definitely see how that would work, but the side trims are long gone

And about the wheels, I'm fine with the banded steels really but I would love a set of ATS Classics or Alleycats..

British weather had other ideas today and since this isn't garaged then painting etc was a no no
Also realised I haven't shown any pics from the back (mainly because it's umm.. not particularly good looking) but here's one anyway

That picture also shows the changes I made to the standard grey seats which were one of my least favorite parts of the whole car, here's a closer picture of that haha I know it's not the best thing in the world but this does the job of brightening them up a bit

The inside is worse than the outside I know
