damn you scored some dope oe parts. That headliner and the rear louvers are sooo awesome. How is working in the engine bay with a hood that flips like that?

Thanks! I guess I'm used to working with the flip-hood at this point. I don't even really notice it. Plus it comes off with just two bolts, so it's really easy to get off if needed. Plus it really draws attention at the shows!

More inspiration... Can't shake the itch for wider wheels and fender flares.

Ugh, this is too fucking good. All those OE and NOS parts are what get me going. If your rack is still weeping like you said, check out Lucas's power steering rack stop-leak. I used it on my Jaguar and it worked wonders!

That's what I'm thinking. Just gotta find the 16x7 lips and barrels.

                                JUNKYARD GOLD

Ok, back to the build... A couple years ago, I moved out to Utah so that my wife could finish school. I had been bitten hard by the Saab bug before then, but little did I know that Utah was a MECCA for rust-free vintage Saabs. There were tons of Pick-N-Pull style junk yards (at least 6 within one hour), each always had at least 2 classic Saabs and they rotated every couple of months... I started making regular rounds.

One day at the Salt Lake, I came across a heavily modified 1986 900 SPG (stands for Special Performance Group - the early Aeros). I pulled off enough stuff to fill a wheel barrow and was charged $125 at the gate. Parts included both bumpers, perfect corner lenses, front hubs with vented rotors (only made for one year, bolt right up to my '80), a set of AutoPal H4 glass headlight inserts (HUGE upgrade from the sealed beams for only $6), a full set of SPG panels (refinished and sold for $425 to a guy in Alaska), and the best of all - an original Saab Sport and Rally aluminum skidplate (for $25). This was a rare accessory made custom for the rally curcuits and PERFECT to protect my transmission case with lowered suspension. It was like Christmas!

Rally skidplate on the left, stock skidplate on the right. Yeah, it's THAT much of an improvement.
