Well Stance|Works, I have finally did what everyone else has and picked up a cheap e28 to wrench on. $500 for a pretty rough but very fixable 1985 535i with a bad coolant temperature sensor. Other than the bad sensor the engine is in pretty good shape, there are a couple small leaks that will be addressed but nothing you wouldn't expect on a 30 year old car.
Obviously the body has seen better days but the only rust is on the inside of the trunk. The only things that need to be replaced are the driver side doors and trunk.
Plans for it are to restore it and daily it for awhile and then I will really tear into it. Bags, wheels, repaint, reupholstered interior, motor swap, and an audio overhaul are all on the list.
Here is how it sits today.
And here is it the day I brought it home, over sized Borbets and all. One of those wheels was absolutely demolished and 2 others had cracks in them. I promptly replaced them with 14" Bottlecaps
