  • 1973 Datsun 240z - 1995 Chevy LT1/T56 swap

I just accepted a deposit on this car but it has had quite a story behind it and wanted to share:

    From the beginning:

The original shell. A 1973 240Z (some at least..)

    Off it goes!

The first LT1 from a Corvette (ended up selling)

The beginning of the end of the first shell

Bonus points if you can figure out what is wrong already..

    Ummmmm....wait...what?

Yeah that back end was either from a 260 or 280....lets just start over..

    New (current) shell:

    Its new heart:

    At the body shop:

    Primer:

Begging to go in 1995 LT1 and T56 transmission with 60k

Installation after the engine bay was painted LC6U a VW/Audi color (my all time favorite)

    Paint:

    Wet sanding:

    Its name:

    Coming home

    Its humble abode:

Its new feet. 15x7 Riken Mesh

And new rubber Nitto Neogen 205/50/15 (such great tires)

Almost disaster. A fluke snow storm in October almost ended everything. The trees still had a lot of their leaves so the extra weight of the snow destroyed a lot of trees in my area.

New wheels done and on (at 4x4 height)

And then I had my first daughter. Things were put on hold for a bit while I learned these valuable lessons:

Picked up a parts car for its interior panels and dash:

Rear spoiler and steering wheel paint (I didnt keep either)

And fiberglass bumpers (they fit poorly so I didnt use them)

    Humpty Dumpty time:

    OOOOOH what are these?

Front spoiler installno the fan is not like that anymore...)

    Interior is in:

    Front is on:

New rear spoiler (went for the good stuff. BRE spoiler)

The last non running photo of it:

Now for some details. I gave up. I never had time to work on it as much as I liked. I called http://www.enhancedstreetperformance.com and had them get it running as well as a ton of other stuff. I can't say enough good stuff about Dave and the rest of the team there.

    Updates from ESP:

    IT'S ALIIIIIIIVE!!!!!

My first time driving my car:

    Back home again:

Ready to go to ZCon 2013:

    At ZCon turning heads:

Happy birthday to me...wheel, emblem, clear turns and dash cover:

    Not bad looking:

    Some shots before winter 2013:

    Met some nice Italians:

Real 3 piece BBS RS wheels 15x7:

New 3" lips for the back and 2.5" for the front:

    Brake install:

New wheels on (going to need flares)

    Photoshoot:

Fender flares are here (ordered from jpngarage.com but fulfilled by jdmflares.com

I like this a lot! But please don't put the flares on unless you plan on getting some mad spacers. The current wheels and tires can definitely be made to fit under the factory metal and it will look much better. Great work thus far!

^this! get skinnier tires, go lower, and work the fenders. The outcome can be amazing. Either way, sweet build!

Silly Datsun, trying to hide in a pile of Ferrari's.
