K SO MY CAR IS DUMB.

anyways it turned out to be the IACV (Idle air control valve)

Ill be ordering one very soon (today) and patiently waiting for it to come in.

Thats all. Just genuinely annoyed a bit because I cleaned it and changed the throttle body for now reason.

Ouch, damn that sucks. But at least Hondas/Acuras are easy to work on. (and parts are relatively cheap)

you actually don't have one becaue my brother had the same motor in his car and we never took that out when it idled weird. i completely forgot man that the obd2 cars don't have them. sorry for supplying useless info because my car is obd1 and i figured yours would too since its not that much newer than mine but nah i guess they don't. lol yeah just start with the coolant and turn your heat on high and let er' loose haha and see if that changes anything. if not let the true hunt begin

the fast idle thermo valve is what causes the engine to idle higher when it's turned on. once it starts to warm up the valve gradually closes. sometimes, although rarely, this valve will get stuck open and the thermo pellet that reacts to the coolant gets worn and cannot keep up with the idle thus creating the surging issue.when your driving and this is the case, and you slow down, your ecu is gonna cut fuel to the injectors because it realizes your slowing down and your fitv is stuck in between trying to keep the idle up and your normal idle speed due to the fact the valve is not fully closed which it needs to be in order to maintain normal idle speed while not driving. i made the mistake of adjusting the plastic fast idle adjustment screw all the way down which does not help in the cold because it lowers the fast idle speed. so don't do that ha but have you burped your radiator? try bleeding it because air in the coolant system will also cause the car to surge and depending on how much overheat also so check your temp gauge also because that can be an indicator to that or other issues haha

Yeah ill have to check/ bleed my coolant. Also do you know where the fitv is located on a d16y7? cause I have no idea

i've dealt with those stupid cotter pins. have you tried cleaning and adjusting your fitv? i had an idle issue with my car and that helped some(didnt get rid of it.) it's one of the non-serviceable parts but you can if you want to lol. also it will idle like that when it's really cold since it takes longer for the engine to heat up, it idles higher in an attempt to heat up quicker. after it's at operating temp, see where it idles.

It idles like it should when its cold but when its all warmed up it starts to rev up and down from 1000-2000 rpm. (I worded it weird that was my bad). What does the fitv do?

Oh dang I have updated this thread since last year *cringes because bad joke*

Anyways nothing has really happened to the car. (Although it is being a huge douche and idling weird so its not passing emissions)

Basically its going from around 1000rpm to 2000rpm when the engine warms up. and it just does that .
Ive already cleaned the IACV and replaced the Throttle position sensor but it still does that. Any suggestions would help dearly. Thanks in advance.

Anyways heres the iacv pulled off and in my room, about to be cleaned.

Didnt get a picture of it clean but it looked a lot better when i was finished with it.

THEN that didnt do anything the idle still went up and down. So my brother suggested the Throttle position sensor. so I went to my old engine and pulled the throttle body off of it and cleaned it.

Then I put the new one in and nothing happened it still idled wrong.

Also another thing I did was replace my cotter pins from when My brothers and I swapped the engine cause the old ones were rusty as shit.
And to add to the complications the ends were sheared off only leaving the rusty remains inside the hole.

Anyways heres the documentation of replacing dem pins

What I was working with. It was the same for both sides. Upper control arm and tie rods


I took a really (like REALLY) thin flat head and started to beat it out with a hammer+Screwdriver combo. Then I took some pliers and worked the rusty remains of the pins out

New pins are in!


I should probably say that I replaced the pins BEFORE My brother and I went to go try passing emissions with the car. (otherwise it wouldnt be safe to drive with no cotter pins)

Anyways I FINALLY decided to get off of my butt and update this thread. even though nothing has happened with the car apart from me taking the stickers off of the back bumper.


(still need to go over it with goo gone to get rid of the leftover glue) (and wet sand and polish the bumper)

Yeah shouldnt be too hard. I mean all i need to do is pull the engine, wire tuck it, fill/shave the bay, paint it, put engine back in, paint valve cover. should only take a few hours.
