What's up S/W? Here's my first build!! My local MB mechanic saved me from a couple bad W116 candidates down here and then showed me this sedan/tank on EBay. I had to get it once I saw the price and documentation. Flew to Sacramento, got a PPI, and drove it down the coast back to Arizona. Prior owner (the 2nd) provided all service records from 79-present, original sticker, MB factory repair manuals printed from microfiche, and a trunk full of rare spare parts and tools!! The original hyrdrapneumatic suspension, transmission, engine, and leather were already restored/rebuilt in the mid 2000s. Didn't have AC from NorCal til SoCal (that was brutal), but a MB mechanic in Costa Mesa converted the AC to R134 in an afternoon and we were good to go. The car cruised well through the mountains without any problems.
I picked up a Nardi classic steering wheel, some euro-spec headlights, and euro front & rear bumpers at a MB parts yard in Orange along the trip. Tint will be going on this week too.
Haven't decided on rims & tires yet. Contemplating saving the original suspension and going Accuair. Also considering a radiator + fan upgrade to battle the AZ heat. Prior owner provided a new dashboard that will go in with new center console AC diaphragms. Not sold on the 360mm steering wheel yet, can't see the upper gauges on the dash.
Feel free to make suggestions along the way. Cheers!
