  • 1971 Dodge Colt/Mistubishi Galant 1st gen

Haven't posted here in awhile, but here is my new project. Traded my beloved Toyota Stout project for it because i just did not have the time. Now i have another project which will also take time. May not have been my brightest idea, but i am actually satisfied with the trade.

The engine ran but needs either rebuilt or replaced. The question is weather to buy a used questionable engine from a salvage place that supposedly runs, or spend the same amount or more on a rebuild kit and then have to pay for machining etc.

In an idea world, i dream of having a toyota black top 20v in there. I have a bit of a thing for toyota, so frankencar might have to happen.

For the time being, here are some pictures.

She ain't pretty but well... actually i think she is pretty

I would rebuild and overhaul the stock engine. You could shave the head to up the CR and get a bit of porting done on the cheap. Combine that with a good set of carbs and you'll be set.

Looks like the side of the car met with some hammers.

Keep us updated, seems pretty cool

          YESSSS FINALLY A COLT.

I'm lovin' wheels, in my opinion that setup is perfect. That's what I want on my Celica someday

Thanks for the enthusiasm guys! I have definitely considered the 4g63 i must say. I feel like if i was going to swap it I want it to be something japanese with badass N/A power. I already have a ridiculous turbo project slowly coming together, so i would like to have an N/A counterpart. The blacktop 20v with velocity stacks is just a beautiful engine to me haha.

I may look at the other dodge/chryslers made by mitsubishi and see if i can find one of the bigger engines from a later model that bolts right in, just for cheapness and availability. It would not be permanent, but a means to drive it until i can make something more substantial happen.

20v 4age's are very fun motors but I would suggest modifying the stock motor.

L28 with triple side draft carbs!

Stupid easy to get a carbed l28 to run, and there's plenty of them around!

Plus, you get the gnarly I6 sound.
