  • 1988 Volvo 245 (FINALLY!)

Randomly saw an ugly Volvo wagon about 7 years ago...and NEEDED one in my life.

An old Volvo wagon? That MUST be cheap and easy to find on Craigslist...

7 years later, I FINALLY find a 245 manual transmission...AND it was a 1 owner! Dude I got it from ordered it in Germany while enlisted and had it delivered to Houston on June 1, 1988. Odo stopped working at 171,XXX; so has right around 200K. AC does not work. Has a pretty good size dent in the passenger side fender. Small oil leak, (I think it is the flame trap)but runs like a champ!! It is a real 5-speed, and not a electronic OD "5-speed." Needs some paint eventually, but for $900, I am STOKED!

It is amazing as is, but I want more out of it!

Things I have done so far:
Pulled hubcaps and cleaned wheels (oven cleaner!)
Bought new drivers side turn signal lens (best $12 EVER)
Replaced Headlight lenses (WHAT A DIFFERENCE! $55 well spent)
A/C Recharge - was already converted so HUGE bonus there!
    Front Seals
    Timing Belt
    Oil Pan Gasket
    Rear Main Seal
    Clutch
    Painted Wheels
    Tint
    Simple Exhaust
    Fixed Saggy Headlight (broken bracket)

List of things to do (mostly in order):
SQUAT! (probably just get some new springs to drop it about 1.5")
    Fix body damage

    Eventually:
    Wheels

    Dreams:
    Full exterior resto
    Engine swap/Turbo
    Drop it on the ground

Here are some pics as of today. I love this thing so much and am looking forward to making it perfect. Definitely looking for some help/criticism; I LOVE cars, but am a newb about the important stuff haha!

Follow me on instagram (trevlor) for more updates! I post pics of this thing (along with all sorts of other awesome) all the time!

    Thanks for looking! =)

My first car was a 1980 240dl wagon. I wish I had never gotten rid of it! Can't wait to see you mod this one

So is this a german spec 245?

Very cool, glad to see you got a build thread up. The paint looks like all it needs is a polish in the pictures.

Nice, almost identical to the one I had! Never did anything with mine (was working on two other cars)

        progress IS a slow process

The hood and top have LOTS of clear coat missing...I am thinking about doing the hood and top a matte black and then eventually doing a white or cream on the rest...but that is a ways away haha

What wheels do you plan on running?

                Whatever fits... haha!

I will probably end up getting some 108-114.3 adapters and either getting some mesh or 5 spokes...dont know the final look i want yet either. They will be round and as cheap as i can find haha!

any know what I would have to do to make a set of 18x8.5 and 18x9.5s to fit? would they fit? everything is stock under those fenders

18's are way to big for these wagons imho. 15 or 16s seem to be the perfect fit.

if you arent on turbobricks.com....you should be

What he said ^^. 16's if you have dish, 17's if you don't. Looking forward to progress! 18's will probably mess with the speedo pretty significantly. you can fit 17's without any issues as long as they aren't too wide.
