  • 78 Corona WAGON build

ok so the car that I'm starting out with is a 1978 toyota corona wagon, FACTORY 5-speed. The car is pretty sick as it is now but i want to drift it this year and there is no way the 20R could handle that kind of abuse.
I originally wanted to put a 1jz into it, I wanted something turbo and with a huge front mount peaking out the bottom of my grill haha. But I've driven kyles 1uz corolla more than enough to realize that a 1uz was the way to go. They take a beating like no other, the stock internals hold up 600+ hp, they have a ton of reliable power stock, they're cheaper than a 1jz, and they're a lot easier to find.
well here is what I've got, enjoy

the stock 1uz wiring has 6 plugs, after you pull all the unnecessary stuff out you end up with 3 plugs and 1 wire

    everything we pulled out

the motor came from a SC400 so it has a rear oils sump, the corona needs a front sump

    front sump installed

had to get a new ECU plug the one I had was crushed. Here I am de-pinning the new plug

de-pinning the crushed plug, I left the rubber piece on so I didn't lose track of where the wires came from

checking to makes sure everything went where it had to

all the wires are back where they should be and everything together

haven't started on mine yet but here are a few pic's of the 8.8 rear end we're putting in my friends 1uz powered AE86. The corona is getting the same thing.

    UPDATE
sorry about the crap Iphone pic's lol

pulled the dash and the front chassis harness so I can work on them and fix a few this
the dash wiring was hacked up pretty bad

this is after I fixed a few thimg and got everything back where is was originally

pulled the 20R now I'm going t take care of the few rust spots in the engine bay, start fabin up the motor mounts, and maybe fill in all the bolt hold

yes sir ford 8.8, and it is pretty heavy but I'm going to pull the diff and run a spool so that should shave about 50 lbs.

This is an awesome build. Why people don't utilize the 1UZ more is beyond me. One of the most reliable V8's ever made. Keep this up!
