  • First car, re-swapped

Through the years, I've posted some pics of various e34s I've built/owned on this site and others. For whatever reason, I can't seem to hold onto any of them for more than a year at a time, must be an e34 thing.

I was never quite happy with any of the cars, always something that bothered me about them or they just didn't keep my attention.

Somehow though, I've managed to hold onto one e30 for 10 years, and it's still a work in progress. This car has been around through the good and the bad, and its gone through it's fair share of stages as my tastes changed. It's been driven hard, neglected, and cherished over the years but I'm finally putting the time and money into it that it deserves.

This is how it started, I was 15 years old and just getting into BMW's. My dad found the car while on a business trip in NC and bought it for just $2500. The car sat around for a couple years, my dad drove it a little. Eventually we cleaned it up and picked out some 16" Team dynamics, also lowered it on H&R's and Bilsteins. This pic was probably taken a little later, but it looked like this for a while

We autocrossed it some, but I was getting into e34's at the time and didn't do much with the e30

After selling my black e34 the first time (I owned it twice), I bought some Ground Controls for the e30 and started autocrossing it some more. I also bought another set of wheels for the street

After that I decided it wasn't fast enough, so I swapped a 3.6L 10.5:1 m30 and megasquirt. The car was awesome like this and I had a lot of fun with it in this configuration.

More recently, the car got a back half spec e30 cage

    And some seats

    And some bigger tires

And then I decided that the m30 wasn't enough, so I got this

Gross Cosmolined engine bay, meant to clean this up last engine swap

Repainted, cut some stuff off. No tuck or anything, not going for that look and don't want it to be annoying to work on

Getting big brakes so I'm stepping up to 17's. No more stretch for me though, the goal is to tuck 245's without flares. Planning on cutting out some of the inner quarter panel to do so. Wheel options right now

Test fitting before I buy tires. This is 17x9.5 ET18, with a 255/40 RE-11. My BBS's are 17x8.5 ET12. Planning to run much lower than this

Checking for space behind my inner quarter panel, plenty of it!

This is pretty much where I'm at. Still working on the wiring, need to do exhaust, install a lot of small pieces, but I'm hoping to be done before Sowo. 300whp and 8000rpm here i come!

I've followed your build for a while on r3v. and was pretty pumped to see a itb m30. But holy moly this is on a whole other level.

What ecu are you gonna run, A chipped stock one? And drive by wire?

Been following your thread on r3v. Had no clue you were the one that built that cirrus E34... That thing was down right gorgeous, definitely motivation for my car!

Always thought your e34's were so clean and well executed. To be honest they gave a lot of insight or at least motivation for the direction I wanted to go in. Definitely looking forward to the progress of this build. Keep it up.

I was always curious about the little white e30 in the back ground. Nice to see it get the attention it deserves. Love the S54 swap. You're work is always awesome!

Thanks to all! It's been a fun project so far. Hopefully I'll have some updates soon, but it's not looking good for Sowo

I was pumped for the ITB m30 also, but it really just doesn't make sense. The head would need a lot of work to flow enough to see any real gains from the ITB's, I would have spent s54 money to get it to ~250whp.

Yep, stock ecu re-flashed, and drive by wire. The plan is to have it remote tuned by Frank Smith, a really experience s54 tuner. I'm hoping for 300-310 to the wheels.

Yep, that was me. Loved that car but sold it to buy my m5. I haven't seen it on the internet or heard much about it since. The guy that bought it is really cool though, couldn't have gone into better hands.

Thanks man, loved your 535i back in the day

Yeah, it's always been around. I would go through stages of working on it a lot and then letting it sit a lot. Now my m5 is being neglected so I can get the e30 where I want it to be after all these years.
