  • Ford Fiesta Mk2 - Soon to be stanced

So last June I bought a Mk5 Golf Tdi as a reliable and economical daily whilst I build my mk1. Didn't turn out to be too reliable and the turbo went. Twice. So took a hit and sold it at a massive loss as it was broken. After various arguments with my parents I finally bought another old 's**tbox'. This time in the form of a Mk2 Fiesta as opposed to the Mk2 Golf I had previously. Most of my friends are generally Ford nuts and figured as I'm already building a mk1 golf then I would switch it up a bit. I knew of a guy geting rid of this fiesta, it now has 3 previous owners, 42,000 miles, 5 months tax and 10 months MOT. Most important of all it's absolutely solid, the sills and arches etc. are mint. All for the sum of £800. It also has Gaz coilovers fitted and a full set of polybushes sitting in the boot waiting to go on.

Not insured on the car yet so it's sitting in the golf's space at the workshop while thats away having its cage built. I'll take some photos when I get up there next. Plans are to respray the rear bumper and bonnet including putting a badge on the front, fit some top caps to the coilovers as the previous owner didn't when he fitted them. It also needs a fan fitting too, gonna get rid of the silly camber and have the tracking fully set up. These are all the little parts it needs then I can get onto modifying it more. I've got a set of Escort RS Turbo Recaros ready to go in the front, just need to swap the subframes over from the original seats. Also going to fit the polybushes and upgrade to XR2 running gear ready for a 2ltr Zetec conversion. A friend had a mk2 previously and did the conversion in a day so will be relying on him to help as I will be using this everyday and can't afford for it to be off the road.

Lastly I plan for some decent wheels. Ford owners are generally really boring when it comes to fitting wheels to their cars. I guess it's quite difficult as these don't take wide wheels too well. Will be looking for a set of 13"/14" splits for it over the summer, maybe some old compomotives. Who knows. This will probably happen before the engine conversion. I shall update with some more photos once I get working on her!

    Thanks for looking

You dont see many Mk2's around any more, this is a great little car.
You hoping to get it to FITP? or Ford Fair?

        Thanks mate.

Yeah it is growing on me, but I'm a fan of less is more in terms of changing parts of the car. I want the OEM recaros, a decent drop on some retro splits and maybe some little things like DRLs and XR2 bumpers. Aside from the engine they're the only things I'm likely to do, the seats and coilovers are there already so it doesn't requrie much to get it where I want it.

Yeah I know they're seemingly as uncommon as mk1 and mk2 golfs. They will never be quite as cool as the golfs though in my opinion, but I own both so don't mind

I'll definitely be going to Ford Fair but apparently FITP isn't on anymore, suppsoedly it cost them too much to hold the event or something. Would like to take it to central day but it won't be anywhere near ready in time. I've found some wheels from Image that I want but they're £1000 so will be able to get them on by August for Ford Fair, but due to the cost of the wheels I doubt I'll have the funds to do the engine conversion by then.

Definitely going to retro rides too! Already ordered my tickets!

Haha is that a good ting about them or a bad thing? Yeah I'm looking forward to getting it done. I plan to put the mk1 on hold once I get it back from the cage builder but then to prevent it from rotting it's gonna need painting and undersealing etc. it's just an endless cycle haha.

So I haven't done too much to the Fiesta lately as I've been paying off my roll cage that my Mk1 Golf has had built (pictures of that to follow soon).

I did however buy some Recaros for the Fiesta, they're out of a Ford Escort RS Turbo, a straight swap but I did swap the runners off the original Fiesta seats because they were mint, whereas the Escort ones were real crusty.

I then cut down the gash looking exhaust tip. went from this:

To this, so a slight improvement:

As it's only a base spec car it came without an ARB so bought me one of those, haven't fitted it yet I'm waiting til I sort some uprated springs for the so i can fit it all together alongside the polybushes I have. Need the back to be as stiff as possible for when I get some new wheels so I get the fitment as spot on as possible. Gonna take the ARB into work and get it blasted and powder coated before getting it all fitted up as well.

Next time I'm at the workshop I'm gonna offer up a spare Mk1 GTI beam I have knocking around, the fiesta uses a rubbish setup at the back meaning it utilises a pan hard rod and they don't make coilovers for them either. If i can run MK1 rear coil overs with a mk1 beam it will make it handle ten times better for when I convert it to Zetec power. But that's all a way off yet, more towards winter. I don't wanna run a carb engine in cold conditions ever again after the experiences I had with my old Mk2 Golf.

I also gave the old girl a wash…

Also had a BBQ at the workshop after playing cars all day!

                      My pal's R33 Skyline:

                      Other pal's Mk1 Caddy:

And lastly, one I'm sure you'll all have a bit of time for (aside from purists), my mate's static Mk1 Golf:

And these are the wheels I'm debating for the old girl…

                      C&C welcome...

Thanks man, appreciate it. It's absolutely solid. As you can probably see the bonnet needs a respray where it's corroded on the front, other than that there's barely even any stones chips or scratches so I'm pretty stoked on it!
