Nice to see a ragtop oval over here!
Would love to see the full engine spec list!
Ditto ^, your oval is pretty damn clean to start with man. If I get rid of my fat chick, I want to get an oval or (dreaming) a split.

What made you go with IDF's instead of IDA's? They're notorious for having a crappy low throttle circuit/street performance. Anywho, kudos for doing it right, CBperformance/weber/ETC. Tired of seeing EMPI mobiles (guilty of this myself ).

    56 beetle, a long build

I have been around here on stanceworks for a while but just recently made an account. I've finally got to the point where i want to start my build thread so here it is. The car is a 1956 beetle.

Here is how she looked when i picked her up back in November.

The car came on a stock rolling pan which i will not be using. Instead i picked up this IRS pan, this bug is going to be quick and the irs will help provide some necessary traction.

    some specs on the pan.
has 69 ghia tunnel with some aftermarket beetle panhalves.
front beam is narrowed 3 inches and now has adjusters.
2 and 1/2 inch drop spindles up front
cb performance disk brake conversion kit with porsche bolt pattern
    vw thing transaxles (beefier)
    new chromed pedal assembly
    rear end narrowed 1 inch
28mm (thicker) torsion bars (have since been changed)
    jaycee stop plates
adjustable spring plates (have since been changed aswell)
    nakata chrome shocks
some no name big front torsion bar
    new steering box

Now I stripped the car to send off to paint and bodywork.

There wasn't much to strip off as the car wasn't really complete. I dragged it out to alabama and had some rust repair done and had a paint guy waiting to do it. when my painter was finally ready to get started it turned out his shop had run out of money and he had to close his doors. I found another painter and he is currently doing some bodywork on it and says he should have it finished in two or three weeks. but here it is now.

I have replaced all the rear end rubbers, reinstalled stock size torsion bars, replaced those adjustable spring plates with some atomwerk 2 inch rear drop plates, and added new jaycee plate retainers (new drop plates needed a different size.

heres a picture of the new rear end setup

I also have been restoring the stock steering wheel by slowly building up broken off pieces and filling cracks with jb weld/epoxy.

here it is when i just started.

It is by no means done but here it is now

Luckily i have a set of late model fuchs already and these are in the process of being polished up. rears are 16x7 and fronts are 16x6.

heres a pic of one how i had them one stripped of paint and de-anodized and one that is 90% done with the whole process but still needs a bit more.

    here's another

And here's one on the pan

the transmission in the pic is a rancho pro street trans. first through third gear are stock and fourth is a .89. Also the ring and pinion is a 3.88 "freeway flyer gear.

So that's where the project is for now. next on the agenda is to finish the wheels and when the body gets back i'm going to build the engine and drop it in. I already have all the parts its going to be a 2275cc
Heres a few pictures of some parts

    the case

    The carbs weber 48 idf's

and the heads 044 super pro cb performance heads valve sizes are 44x37.5 they're ported and polished aswell

And thats all i have for now.
