  • The old Matt black RA28 celica that's begging for a 1jz

So my brother has recently had a couple of cars. One is this 1977 Ra28 Celica with 77xxx km's on it. The previous owner painted it a terrible matt black with rattle cans which should soon resprayed orange again. It was bought as a project because his 350z was getting too expensive, which prompted him to sell and buy a strawberry faced s14 which turned out to be a pile, so it was sold, and this perfectly running celica was purchased for its ease to work on. It has a 18R engine which still runs strong after new plugs, oil, and fuel line were installed. It does lack any real "sporty" power but does the job for getting it around. It will soon be torn out and a 1JZ-GTE installed. Coilovers will be made up, and a set of Rota grid classics have already been purchased in 15x9 with a -10 offset. Rust is minimal with just a touch around some window seals. I will try to get more photos in the coming weeks and post as much progress as possible. For now these will have to suffice.

excited to see this, and those wheels actually look really good! If you can afford 3 piece wheels then great, if not I really don't see anything wrong with rotas or xxrs just start off with.

I know Rota aren't everyone's 1st choice but unfortunately being at Uni and an apprentice has its downfall of income. Also here in Perth 3 piece rims are F***ing expensive, even second hand. One day it will have some Works or something similar. ALSO plans have slightly changed as we have decided to put in a 1ggte instead of a 1jz due to people wanting copious amounts of money for them. We bought a 1ggte today with loom, ecu, and AFM for $1300. It has 90000km on it. We will pick it up tomorrow along with some tyres.

I second that on the rims, buying second hand 3 piece wheels could set you back 2grand easy without tyres. Putting on some Rotas that actually look a shit ton nicer than the stock wheels make you feel a little better about your car.

As much as I prefer the whole genuine wheel thing. Rotas are fine for street shit tbh. And can still look cool. 1ggte would probably be better for the car tho :P Still go well. A friends just made 180whp in an Ra63 with a retune and 3in/fmic and stock twins. So still a good motor in little cars :P
