  • 1955 Chevy Series 2 Pickup - Pic intensive!

I wanted to share something with all of you, something I have been fortunate to watch being built. My love for cars comes from my father and this build is his a dream he has been trying to fulfill for almost 10 years now and now it's coming true and wanted share. Over the next couple months I will be sharing the progress.

He bought this truck on a whim when he saw it on ebay, he was in Singapore at the time and didn't even see it in person before he bought it. He has loved the truck since he was young, loves chevy trucks and cars. These are the original pictures he had of it.

It was located in California at the time and he had the body sandblasted down to see the real condition and for the age it had a pretty good body, nothing too crazy but a few issues that needed to be sorted. The truck was transported to a local hot rod shop close to where it was bought and was bolted to a TCI frame i believe. The truck came with a 350 small block and automatic transmission and truck full of parts. Most of the parts where junk, the only things kept where some of the OEM parts.

It was at the hot rod shop for almost 3 years and worked on bit by bit for 3 years. was hauled back to Calgary, Canada and put into a 3 car garage where he began to work on it. When we got it to Calgary, it had a chunk of work done to it from a frame, suspension and drivetrain perspective. My Father worked on getting some of that mechanical pieces finished up and started on modifications for the bed. After the car being slowly worked on for another 5 years in Canada, my father ended up moving to Europe for 1 year and then began spending time down in Texas due to work. My father moved to Texas for a work and decided that it was time to finish the truck and have access to the american prices (building a car in Canada is very expensive due to shipping, import taxes and all that fun stuff), he hauled it down here after finding a trusted hot rod shop. My father is very picky and spend about 2 months finding the right shop, so it was dropped off and since then this project has taken off.

My opinion of his shop is that they are down to earth car guys, professional, they race flatheads, built numerous cars and have some amazing metal workers. I think my father would agree....as the truck is still at the shop and he is being billed

I can't find a picture of when it arrived at the shop...but this is was the truck about 3-4 months ago.

I will also share what his goals are for this truck:
    - Wants to be able to drive it, not going to be a trailer queen
    - He does want to show the car
    - Wanted something that was unique and that couldn't replicated
    - Anything that was changed on the truck must be subtle but make the car stand out
    - horsepower and fun

Its funny the whole time this truck has been worked on, there haven't been dramatic body changes but enough to make it unique and subtle. There are some more obvious changes but there are some little ones that even someone that knows 1955 half tons might not even pickup on.

Anyways I'll being posting in this thread and hopefully its of interest to all and you enjoy. I'm not going to give it all away just yet!

This is the original side step...

It was smoothed and strengthened, went from barely being able to hold a a wrench to being able to hold a 200 pound person. The rail from the bed was also extended to the side step to help support.

the two rear corners on the bed were also rounded....

The part of the bed closet to the truck was also modified to compliment the curve of the cab...
