  • '48 Ford Rat Rod

I'm building a Rat Rod out of a 1948 Ford F-1 from the frame up. I've got a good amount of the frame and rear suspension done and soon I'll be starting the front suspension, I'm just waiting to get some plates cnc cut for the front bags. Then in a few weeks once the snow is gone here in Michigan I have a 351W that I need to pick up but can't get to.

    When I got it:

    Some of the progress:

^ The weld on the left looks like hell because my welder was acting up. Turned out there was a loose connection inside.

Terribly jealous of how easy you live-axle guys have it for mounting air suspension.

Looking forward to seeing this come together!

Thanks man! I'm going to chop it and possibly section the body depending on how it looks chopped.

Thanks and yea the bag were pretty easy, front won't be too bad either considering I'm using an I-beam straight axle.

                Thanks!

Got some parts. Front disc brakes, along with new king pins and everything else to freshen up the front end. Plus a little preview of what my front bag brackets are going to look like.

Nice work. The cab looks really clean too. However, the brackets where your three link bars bolt to the frame are not going to be strong enough. Definitely beef those up. Also the track bar should not be at an angle like that; whenever the suspension compresses your rear axle is going to steer.

Thanks man. The cab is pretty clean other than the front lower corners where the fenders met the cab, that area is going to need some attention but other than that it's good. The mounts for the 3 link are all reinforced with 1/4 inch plate now so it's much stronger than in those pictures. The track bar I'll have to fix, a friend of mine was telling me the same thing, so it should run parallel with the axle correct? Thanks for looking out

Correct, and as close to parallel to the ground as possible at ride height.
