Bagged Trafic Van To Be!

Hey Guys! Great forum!

I drive a Renault Trafic van as my daily and for moving my motocross bike about at weekends for racing.

I've owned the van for 5 years and it has evolved lots from when I first got it. Main modifications were colour coding, lowering and 19" Range Rover wheels. As I use and drive it all the time I have decided it's time for it to go on air. Took about a year of researching and trying to grow the balls to go for it! Well now is the time and I'll keep you guys update as I go!

Hope to get to know you over the next months, It's going to be running a full Accuair elevel and ilevel setup :-p

This is how the van stands as we speak...

Stage 2 fast road clutch ( mainly for towing and to handle the remap)

The gearboxes on these arent the best and mine needed rebuilt. I stripped and rebuilt it myself with new bearings etc. it's a big job on these vans...

I also did some work on the interior by fitting two single seats instead of a single and a double. I got another single seat base and fitted some Saab 93 heated leather sports seats. Took a bit o drilling and grinding but all worked well....



I also wanted arm rests so I welded up a frame and fitted 2 universal arm rests in the center. Got gray ones with leather tips to match perfect.

I also wanted to hide some compressor over ride switches and a preasure guage in the arm rests too so I build this also .........





I opted for the Air Zenith Digital guage, not really needed with the Accuair Elevel and Il
Level but thought it will be a nice to have. I can also turn off the Accuair ecu from that switch panel if I want to put it into the garage etc.

Ok so onto the interesting bit, the Air!

I decided to go with a full Acciair set up as follows:

Elevel auto leveling
Ilevel iphone control
2 x Viair 480 compreasors
5 gallon tank
Water traps
3/8 air lines

Struts were custom built by Kean Suspension in Belgium and have Koni adjustable dampening inserts. As far as I'm aware there has only been another 3 vans done like this. 2 of which I couldn't track down for advice but there was one chap in Belgium who I got talking with. He had actually sold his van and wanted to sell his struts and bags which had only done 3000 miles so I bit his hand off! Haha

Here is the struts new, mine are basically new too........



Before I bought anything I did a clearance check on the van to see If there would be any issue for using air. I knew it wasn't an issue as the other guys who had done before it said it worked fine but I had to check for myself. I ran the back with no springs and the front with no struts.

Everything cleared and the chassis didnt need notched so I pulled the trigger and pressed ahead with ordering the struts and accuair air management.

As the strut was missing the wheel was sitting a little forward in the arch



The rear bump stops till need cut for the rear to go lower.

Cheers guys, the H&R lowering springs were so harsh. Hoping the air ride will be a lot nicer. As I use it for getting to motocross having the height adjustment for getting up tracks was a must.

I'm currently offshore right now for another 3 weeks and all the accuair kit turned up te day after I left. That's what you call pure torture Hahahaha!

Cheers mate. I'm a little nervous to say the least! Hope it all works out and looks good.

I have a 2014 sportive front end waiting I go on too once winters over. It's the same as the one in the background....



I'll always be keeping the Range rover wheels but the final wheels are still to be decided. At present it will most likely be some 19" BBS speedlines in white like these. Seen them on a red T5 and look amazing....



In the meantime I got some center caps for the RR wheels from a RR tuning company called Hawke....



That's about as far as I've got so far, hope you all like!

Very cool, sounds like a fun project since it will still be usable for what you need it for.

Thanks mate, not the easiest thing to mod as nothing is really available off the shelf. That's why it's took a year to get this far. The ride hight at the moment is ok, kinda looks good but need to be lower to really pull off the wheels. The springs are rock solid tho and really hope the air is firm but smooth. Custom coilovers were an option but I feared they would be just as firm and would take out the practicality of the van. It's getting there slowly, have bits lying about everywhere hahaha
