  • Whats with all these damn pickups?

How's it going, my name is Mel and I have a 1991 Chevy S10. I bought it 2 years ago. It was sitting in some ones front yard for about 6 months or so.
    It looked like this:

It was an absolute eye sore, I know but it ran good just burned a little oil. I drove it for maybe 3 months before motor finally went.

    Cylinder 3

So it was time for a rebuild

I rebuilt the motor to stock specs nothing fancy. Sometimes I wish I had gone with a v8 but maybe later on down the road.

Now to tackle the physical appearance of the truck.
First things that had to go were the windshield visor, bug guard and cheap fog lights.

And a fresh wax was definitely in order

Next thing were the headlights and running lights

That's it for tonight, ill post my suspension and other changes tomorrow.

Now when most people think of low s10s they think of air bags, hydros, body dropped, and flamboyant paint jobs. But that's not what we've got here. I wanted to leave the truck static but nothing to extreme.
I went with some DJM 3in drop tubulars and speedway pivot upper controls arms for the front and 4in blocks in the rear.

A lot of people don't like 4in blocks cause of the added wheel hop, but mine wasn't bad. Still did a hell of a burnout.

I was happy for the time being with the height so I went back to focusing on appearance.
Started with removing the old ugly chrome step bumper and replacing with a roll pan.

In the process of removing the cheesy chrome, I decided to do something with rims, so I picked up a can of plastidip to experiment with.

Also removed the bodyside molding for a cleaner look. But in the process found out someone had the truck resprayed with the molding on.

The passenger side and a red paint stripe down the side, and I wasn't putting the side molding back on so I went with the two tone look.

Now I had to do something with those exhaust pipes. I went from the cat back with a Magnaflow 2.5" inlet and a 2.25" dual outlet and turned down. Sounds good not too loud but has a nice tone.

The front looked like it needed some attention so, back to experimenting with plastidip and different grilles.

I liked the gmc grilles better so I messed around with a salvaged grille and pieced this together.

Didn't like it at all, ***** IT. So I just ordered an all chrome GMC grille from LMC trucks.
Also came across something cool. Some true projector headlights. They weren't cheap and the used H1 bulbs. I'm thinking they were made for a semi truck with dual headlights

With the lights being H1 bulbs I didn't have high beams, so I picked up some 6in round HELLA fog lights for added visibility on country roads.

With the lack of room behind the grille, I couldn't adjust the fogs correctly. So I mounted the lights to the bumper but the dual lights just didn't fit the look of the truck. So I ran one like the euro VW.

Got a new valance and add some headlight eyelids

        Interior need some attention

Next were the wheels. I loved these old C4 sawblades but are hard to come by.

Some I picked up some old GTA wheels that need some attention.

Clear coat was badly flaking off the dish. Began stripping with air craft remover and sand paper.

        Test fit on 245/50
        Rear

        Front

The 245/50 looked funny at the ride height so I had to go lower or run a little taller tire.....or both. I wanted to get the tire fitment correct with out rubbing. So I researched tire sizes and even called tire shops to get opinions. They all said a 225/55 would be the smallest tire I could run on this truck.
3/4 drop until drop spindles come in.

2in drop spindles on but tires didn't clear. So I adjusted the camber and trimmed the fender flares and inner fender.

I may bring down the rear some more but I'm feeling the raked look. So it will sit like this for awhile

        Thanks for looking.
