  • 2001 w220 build in the UK

Ok so here it is as it was bough, rusty wings, rusty doors and terrible paint not to mention the state of the wheels but it was a bargain, drives spot on and the interior should clean up a treat!

First job is to get the new wheels on and then get it sitting right!

After that it is getting wrapped but I really can't decide on what colour, very tempted with a Matte white but any views are more than welcome

At the moment it's sitting low on modded original Airmatic, and actually sits pretty well but I don't know how long it will last,

When it finally goes or when funds are right it will go on to a full air setup from Havair

Having just come back from East Sussex collecting the car I realised however bad the roads are here they are still better than Sussex Hampshire and Dorset!

It sits pretty well at the moment and although it's only a 2inch lift it's pretty hand with the amount of speed bumps we have here

Picked up a set of these this morning as temp rims hoping to get them fitted this morning

Then it will be an afternoon of getting under it and adjusting the links to get it down a bit more and shopping for spacers if needed, any opinions?

Also what do people think of Matte grey for the wrap?

So, wheels are on, didn't have time to adjust the ride height or spacing as I had to collect my little girl but I reall don't think I'm that happy with them,

            18x8.5j 225/40 front and 245/40 rear,

but the look lost in the arches, hopefully tomorrow I can order some spacers and play with it a bit more but this is where it is at so far

Crying out for at least 19's if not 20's with big old dish! Especially if its going to get wrapped in white!

                  This.

These are too flat (faces) and style just doesn't suit the S.

Some dish in 18'' flavour with some meaty rubber wouldn't look too bad IMO...

I agree but theses where on hand and I had to choose between wheels and getting the body and wrap done.

But I am on the hunt for something with dish in a 19

this! and your selection will increase 10 fold and many of which comes with low offset

its all about the lip or concave when it comes to benzes.

So no real work today but I picked up the keys to my new workshop so progress is imminent!

I also have cleared space on the ramp so it will be interesting to see how low the standard airmatic setup will let me drop it before it causes issues! Does anyone have any experience in this?

Also all the samples for the wrap arrive on Monday so it will be time to sit down and seriously decide on a colour. These are the colour swatches from the 3 main company's I work with lots of choice but......... I don't want to regret my choice in a few weeks/months

Still struggling to find some wheels and make a decision, I can't help wondering if it's on the deck and space correctly it might just pull these wheels off, from some angles they look quite good, from others they look lost in the arches

Any way will have a proper update next week

Ok so I had a spare hour this afternoon so I decided to have a play with the ride height sensors and managed to get her down a few inches

The front still needs a bit more but I'm happy with the rear now and as a bonus the 18's no longer look so lost! Ran out of daylight today so will finish it tomorrow but this is how the rear is sitting so far

Apologies for the crappy pics but you get the idea

Also I should be able to start work on all the rust this week which is really starting to bug me.

Ok brief update, this build has come to an abrupt end, there has been some progress, all the bodywork has been restored and it has been wrapped but, today I was offered a W114 cheap and I couldn't say no so sadly this will be sold to fund the new build.

Shame as I would love to keep both but one must prevail and I love classics to much

                              New build thread coming soon
